Het boek gaat over hoe de hoofdpersoon, Jake Barnes, in het leven staat. Het verbal is eigenlijk de gemacht van Jake. Jake laat zien hoe zijn ken nissen en vocal Brett, een vrouw waar hij eigenlijk verliefd op is. Het problem is alleen dat Brett normal gepassioneerd is maar dat Jake, door een would die hij heeft overgehouden van de eerste wereld oolong, impotent is. Later in het verbal wordt Brett verliefd op een toreador. Jake vindt deze toreador een voor beeld van een echte held hoe hij met zijn stereo moet organ. I found it a very depressing book because there was nothing good happening. Furthermore, I found the book very heavy, it where al heavy problems that the characters had to deal with. I also found it a bit boring because there wasnt much action and thats what I like in a book.
