Romeo and Juliet is a story about a pair of star-crossed lovers. Two teenagers pursue their love for each other despite the fact that their families have been at odds with each other for decades. The story combines sword fighting, disguise, misunderstanding, tragedy, humor and some of the most romantic language found in literature all in the name of true love. To start with, we can see that the general situation is rather like a clan or tribal conflict. Such conflict can lead to social disorder, bloodshed or even death. It all starts with the conflict between the two households.

Montague and Capulet feud in the Italian City of Verona. Within the scene, a group of men feud without the audience knowing really what it is over. The bull headed guys appear to be arguing just because it is the in thing to do. Shakespeare wanted people to realize that holding a grudge can lead to everyday battles. People are influenced easily and go along with whatever is dished out just to be in the little click or group. This scene is included to make people realize how holding a grudge against a neighbor could lead into tragedy.

The fighting scene really makes the audience alert and edgy. The Capulets have a party so Juliet can meet Paris before their wedding day, which is a few days later. Wearing a mask, Romeo sneaks into a Capulet party to see a beautiful girl named Rosaline, but instead meets Juliet. Romeo and Juliet? s eyes meet and instantly they fall madly in love. Not knowing each other is in opposite households they sneak around and eventually kiss before the end of the evening.

Later they realize that Juliet is a Capulet and Romeo is a Montague knowing this love is forbidden, they decided they were not enemies. This scene let? s the audience know that teenagers emotions are sitting on their shoulders and that teenagers do not know who they are getting involved with until it is too late. In Shakespeare time teenagers fell in love and got married at a young age. Shakespeare wanted people to know that teenagers are not mature enough to marry and take the responsibilities of a family.

In the next scene Juliet is standing on her balcony confessing to the stars her love for Romeo even though she realized that love to Romeo would be forbidden. Why would she talk out loud about a forbidden love? Romeo, who couldn? t stand being away from his true love Juliet, crepe inside the gates to get a glimpse of Juliet.

He hears her confession of love for him. Not being able to bear anymore, Romeo admits to his true love that he understood her love for him, because he felt the same towards her. After talking and kissing Romeo asked Juliet to marry him. She was delighted and agreed for the next day. Romeo went home a happy man.

In this scene Shakespeare wanted the audience to realize not to say anything out loud unless they wanted someone to hear. People may be creeping around the corner waiting to hear a secret. Some secrets are to be oneself. But the most important idea is to be honest with one? s parents. As planned, Romeo and Juliet got married the next day.

In this scene the audience understands that Romeo and Juliet rushed a little and should have told the families. Things may have been able to be worked out if the families knew of their love. Romeo? s happiness after the marriage is contrasted with Tybalt? s appearance which cause Mercutio? s death, Tybalt?

s death, Romeo? s banishment and all the tragedy to happen. After Romeo killed Tybalt, the audience realize that holding a grudge for no apparent reason could lead to death and unhappiness. While Romeo was banished, Juliet is there, in her own house, hoping that Romeo will be there tonight to consummate the marriage. Romeo was in Fair? s cell, feeling very helpless and despair, as he could not go to see Juliet tonight and he must leave for Mantua immediate because of his banishment.

The nurse brought back bad news of Romeo? s banishment and Tybalt? s death. At first, Juliet was devastated as she misunderstood Romeo is the one who is killed by Tybalt. But after further questioning, Juliet then realized Tybalt is the one who died, not Romeo.

She felt relieved. Friar finally agree to let Romeo go to the Capulet? s place that night. But only with disguise. They shared their passion that night portraying innocent love. Sadly, Romeo must leave Juliet for Mantua the next morning.

Juliet was forced to marry Paris. She did not want to marry him, and with Friar? s help, she drank a potion which would have caused her to? die? for 72 hours.

On that day, Friar tried to inform Romeo about the plan, but his letter did not reach him. Instead Romeo receive the unpleasant news from Balthasar, Romeo then went to Juliet? s tomb, he killed Paris, he drank the poison, and when Juliet woke up, she killed herself, and died too. The tragedy of their deaths just proves how immature the love stricken teenager actually were. 327
