It was one of those rare summer days when the heat actually felt good. There was only one week left before swim season started, and before Ben would be permanently pre-occupied with his determined attempts to beat the state record for the 200 m butterfly. After arming herself with her three secret weapons: Binary, her lucky tube of lipstick, and some cherry flavored lip gloss, Stacie stuck her No Doubt, tape in her walkman and took off in pursuit of her goal for the moment, knowing she had no time to waste. As she hopped into her deep green Chevy Compare, she thought of how dear Ben was to her. How could she let something so gorgeous slip through her fingers SO many times? He had been the object of her obsession for years now, and even though she and Ben were great friends, she was too shy to ask him out.
He was the strong silent type, with a great smile, and dark brown hair that always seemed to hang perfectly in front of his gorgeous face. His eyes were a completely different world; Baby blue with hints of gray. No one could ever tell what was going on inside that head of his, Behind that smile that lit up every room he entered. There were many days that she would just sit there watching him at basketball practice, his tan muscular body glistening with sweat. He was just SO perfect, he was smart, funny, athletic, and incredibly irresistable. Afterall, Stacie hadnt been the only girl whom Ben impressed.
He was the center of the universe as far as half the girls in California were concerned. Had it been up to Stacie, Ben would have been hers the moment she laid eyes on him. Everytime she saw him, however, she turned crimson, and nearly passed out. She eventually started talking to him, and they became great friends, but, even though every girl she knew admired her evenly for her position as his best friend, that just wasnt enough. One night she tried to tell him how she felt, but every time she even thought about what she was going to say, she started blushing again. But, today would be the day that would change her life forever.
Once she told him how she felt, she KNEW he would be hers forever or... so she hoped. She pulled up to his house, and parked the car. With her sweaty palms placed firmly on the steering wheel, she breathed in deeply, priced, and slammed on the gas. As the car flew through the neighborhood at what seemed to be 300 mph, she started to calm down, and established her position. I am not africa, she said to herself as she slowed the car to the speed limit.
She drove on, but after about five blocks, she stoped, realizing how stupid she was acting, and, laughing to herself, turned the car around. After all, he was expecting her, and she couldnt ditch him, otherwise she would have backed out for sure. In five years I will laugh about this. she assured herself, as she got out of the car, tossing the keys into the glove box this time, just to be safe, I AM going to do this. She rang the door bell, and fiddled with the buckle on her bag.
She turned her back on the door, fumbling around in her purse for her binary, and eventually giving up. Then she heard Ben open the door and clear his throat behind her. Stacie's heart skipped a beat, and she felt her palms begin to sweat again. She put on a sexy smile, and turned around to face the man of her dreams once and for all. When she turned however, her well practiced smile turned into a countenance of pure shock. Her idol, whom she had craved for for so long, was standing in the double doorway holding a dozen red roses and the cutest teddy bear that she had ever layed eyes on.
She gasped and tried to find the words to say, but Ben put his finger to her lips, and held her in his masculine arms. I really care about you Stacie, but I never could find the words untill now. Ben said. A tear fell from her eye, and Ben brushed it away kissing her softly. This is the best day of my life. Stacie said, and this time, she noticed that Ben was blushing too.
Then she laughed to herself. From that moment on, she wasnt as shy as she had been, after all, even though she didnt go through with her plan to tell him all of those things she had wanted to say, That day, all of her wishes had come true... The End Bibliography SUMMER
