In the play Macbeth, the character Macbeth did many evil things, which lead to his downfall. These things effected not only himself, but his relationships with Lady Macbeth and his fellow countrymen. Macbeth was a good and brave man in the beginning of the play. He fought heroically for Scotland and recieved an honor, a title, as a reward.

His mental health was good also. When he hears the three greetings of the three witches, however, his mental health starts to fade. At first, he is alright. He is alittle apprehensive about his plot with his wife to kill the King, Duncan, for the throne. As the time grows near to the murder, he gets more and more frightened and anxious.

As he is commiting the crime, he imagines a dagger pointing towards him. Then, he cant say amen after hearing others saying a prayer. As the evil doings grow in number, Macbeth's mental health grows weather. He sees ghosts and cant control himself in front of guests. Macbeth's relationship with Lady Macbeth is also affected. When he writes the letter to her in the begining of the play, she reads it and can tell exactly what her husband is thinking, as was the case when Macbeth first returns home.

Also, she is able to soothe him and in a sense, control him to make him do what she wants. She soon loses this ability however, do to his strength and lack of guilt and her own wrecked mental state. They become distant and no longer share or know each others fears or concerns. Macbeth's relationships with his fellow countrymen is strained also. He no longer trusts any of them and he loses their respect. He is not as close to them and is wary of them.

He commited evil acts against many of them also. The people are not happy with him as king either. Many do stay and fight with him out of loyalty for their country, not their king. Macbeth's evil acts were clearly his downfall. They caused him is mental health, his marriage, his throne and eventually, his life.
