Lord of the Flies A ongoing theme in William Golding's Lord Of The Flies is that man is savage heart, continually reverting back to an evil and primitive nature. Once the boys begin to organize they begin to separate and almost entirely louse civilized behavior. As the boys try to organize and formulate a plan to get rescued, they begin to separate and as a result of the conflict a tribe of savage hunters is formed. Eventually the stranded boys in Lord of the Flies almost entirely lose civilized behavior.

When the confusion of their civilization finally leads to a manhunt [for Ralph], The reader realizes that despite how civilized the boys were, they have evolved backwards and shown that a savage side exists in all humans. I agree with Ralph. We ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we re not savages.

We re English, and the English are the best at everything. So we ve got to do the right things. (Jack page 42). The novel shows threaded how easy it is to revert back to the evil nature intrinsic in man. If a group of civilized school boys can ultimately wind up committing various extreme travesties, ocean imagine what adults, leaders of society, are capable of doing under the pressures of trying to maintain a stable and civilized society. Man is presented with two choices good verses evil, It seems that mans nature is make the wrong choice. At the beginning of the Lord of the Flies, despite the situation, there seems to be no evil, but only good.

A paradise island with no adults, The harmonica almost natural friendship exists between Jack and Ralph, and the general mood in the group. The only hint of evil is the badgering manner of the group towards Piggy Shut up, Fatty (pg. 21 Jack). Nevertheless, as the story continues, and the boys become more uneasy and less hopeful of being rescued, the once friendly relationship between Jack and Ralph becomes more tense and scattered. One group, led by Ralph divides itself into two minor groups. The two groups drift further and further apart. Eventually, in a fit of rage, Jack leaves the group along with his loyal hunters, to form a new tribe.

Here is the split between all the inner conflicts. The world, that understandable and lawful word, was slipping away. Once there was this and that; and now and the ship had gone (page 91). While Jack represents the evil and savagery in man, Ralph and his group seem to represent the good, the civilized nature in man. The responsibility of civilization is thrust upon the older boys, However, they slowly abandon their responsibilities, in order to serve themselves and their needs. There they abandon their responsibilities the more they lose their civilization, slowly revealing their own savage and cruel tendencies.

I know there isn t no beast not with claws and all that, I mean but I know there isn t no fear either Unless Unless we get frightened of people (page 84, piggy). Eventually they start killing pigs and dancing around a fire which seems to be some sort of religious ritual. As they act out an attack onthe pig they shout war cries meant for the beast. The dark sky was shattered by about- white scar. An instant later, the noise was on them, like the blow of a gigantic whip. The chant rose in agony.

Kill the beast! cut his throat! spill his blood! (p. 152, all of the hunters say this). At this stage in the Lord of the flies the boys savage and evil nature ivory powerful.

This stage is quite the opposite of the beginning of the Lord of the Flies. Inthe beginning the boys were civilized and good but now they are savage and evil. The boys in the Lord of the flies hunted each other because they were separated bythe conflict caused by their different views on the beast and their society. The boys seem to be reverting backwards in terms of their savagery. As the boys revert backwards the savagery of mankind becomes more and more apparent. Golding suggested that man isa rational creature in control of his own destiny, although man may think that he does sometimes.

I m not going to play any longer. Not with you. (page 127, Jack). The boys the Lord of the Flies think that their manhunt is just a game and none of the characters take responsibility for their wrong doings. Things are breaking up.

I don t understand why. We began well; we were happy. And then Then people started getting frightened (page 83, Ralph). Golding suggest that in the Lord of the Flies mankind is a savage species and even with out the world of adults, they can not help but to revert back to being savage.

Mankind becomes more and more savage at heart as he evolves because of his quest follower and strength (the competition and force between the two tribes). The savage side mans nature wins in the end and mankind is proven to be a savage race that refuses to accept its flaws and responsibility.
