1. Author: William Shakespeare 2. Wrote: In 1599 - 1600 Julius Caesar was a great military power. Much of Rome praised Caesar and triumphed at his victories and accomplishments.

However, there were many dissatisfied Roman men and women that felt Caesar was too powerful and ambitious for his own good. Caesar? s growing power resulted in Marcus Antonius offering him the Crown of Rome three times, and all three times Caesar refused the crown. Cassius and Marcus Brutus were planning a conspiracy against Caesar. Cassius? s plan was enlisting Brutus, an honorable man, in a plot that showed Caesar was doing more harm than good for the Roman Empire.

Brutus, after considering his options, agreed to join Cassius and fellow conspirators in the plot to save Rome from Caesar. On the night of March 14, all of Rome misbehaved. Caesar? s wife, Calpurnia, dreamed she saw her husband? s statue with a hundred knife wounds that were spouting blood. When Calpurnia awoke her sleeping husband, she begged to him to please stay home the following day.

However, the following day arrived and Caesar was convinced by the Senate and many so called friends to join them in Senate meetings, which were being held that day. While Caesar began his way into Rome, more evil omens appeared to him. Caesar neglected to realize the truth behind these omens, and proceeded into the Senate building. Not long after Caesar arrived, he was attacked and swarmed by his conspirators, Caesar fell dead of twenty-three knife wounds. After Caesar? s death, Rome was split into basically two different political parties.

The first, led by Marcus Antonius and Ocatavius Caesar, and Aemilius Lepidus. The second group, was led up by Brutus and Cassius. The night before a battle between the two groups occurred, Caesar? s ghost appeared to Brutus in his tent, announcing that they would meet up in Phillips. The following morning, Brutus and troops were defeated by Antonius and his infantry.
