So many times we dont think about the consequences of our actions, and we end up regretting our decisions after we have suffered from those consequences. In Dr.
Laura Schlessingers book, How could you do that, she said time after time that we need to think before and act later. There are three cases that come to mind from her book that show us how we should act in the business world today. The first case that comes to mind is the one titled But Being good doesnt make me happy. She talks about a woman named Carey, who has been married for thirteen years and has three children. She started to have an affair with a guy and she starts to feel guilty. She tries to justify her actions by saying that she deserves happiness.
Dr. Laura makes her ask herself questions concerning the consequences associated with her actions. Her questions are centered on the family that she is apart of and if these consequences will truly bring happiness. This is a great example of what many households are going through today. I will be in the business world starting in May and luckily I will not have a family to worry about when I enter. But it will still be a problem when I do have a family.
So many families are going through problems because of affairs at the workplace. Most of these affairs are justified by the definition of happiness. The people caught up in this are usually so caught up in themselves that they forget about the stress and pain the family members will go through. I believe that this temptation can be wiped away if a married couple can both give all that they can to the relationship. If their desired and needed are fulfilled then they should have no reason to cheat. Also if they can quit being so selfish and look at the overall picture, a lot of these wants will be non-existent.
The next case study that came to mind is titled To be or not to bea daddy. This case dealt with a man that had a fear about fatherhood. A majority of this fear came from the fear of the unknown. So many times we are faced with a decision that will not be able to predict the outcome.
What we have to realize is that we never know the outcome when were dealing with future. Only God knows what will happen and we have to trust him. If we never enter into something because we fear the unknown, our lives will be void and useless. Sometimes you just have to take the chance, because you never know unless you try. I know that I will be faced with this problem when I get married and Im in the business world. When dealing with business, you have to put a lot of time in it and it takes a lot of time from you personal life.
I just hope that if when I make the decision to become a father, I wont let my family down. This is my greatest fear when dealing with fatherhood. I have asked myself the same questions that the man in this case asked and Im sure that were not the only ones. The last case was called, To be or not to be moral. This lady was asking herself if it was all right to cheat as long as no one knew about it. There should be no question about the answer to this statement.
She was wondering about her husband doing this to her. She stated that she is in the process of forgiving him and moving on with her life. I think that this is very commendable and it is the best alternative measure that can be taken. Almost every one of these cases that I read deal with affairs relating to the work force. I know personally know that I wont have to deal with this because I wont even date a person unless I believe that I can spend the rest of my life with her.
I believe that if I do all that I can to make my marriage happy and keep a good clean conscience with God, then I shouldnt have any worries. I really believe that if we put our faith in God and we trust him to lead us in the right path, then we cant go wrong. In this book, no one lets God direct his or her path. I guess the main thing that I received from this book is that if our lives arent right with God then our lives can go down the drain.
