It is a total computer age, where in this day and age babies are artificially produced and educated. 2. What is the geographical setting of this book?
This majority of this book takes place in London, England. It starts of in a hatching and conditioning laboratory for babies. 3. Summarize the book in 300 - 500 words. The novel opens with the director of Hatcheries and Conditioning taking a group of students on a tour of the Central London Hatching and Conditioning Center.
The tour begins in the fertilizing room, where the students are shown the incubators. Then he shows them how each life is determined at birth in the bottling room and the process of using a mechanical process to produce babies. They show them how they use different methods to create equilibrium between the humans. They go outside and see little kids play simple sex games to show children that sex is not abnormal and wrong. When the tour is over Bernard Marx, an alpha worker at the center, and a girl named Lenina travel to Savage Reservation. When they arrive at Savage Reservation they take a look around.
They meet two savages named John the savage and a blonde woman named Linda. They get to talking to them about life and history. Soon after Bernard asks if they want to come back to London to do some research. All four of them return to the Center.
When they arrive, the director of the center publicly humiliates Bernard for his weird behavior. During this Linda goes up to the crowd and tells them that the director is the father of her baby. The director then becomes very embarrassed and leaves quickly. Then Bernard becomes a hero and very popular with the women.
John the savage gets jealous and tries to get more attention. He succeeds in getting attention and people start to push Bernard away. When John is popular Lenina falls in love with John. He then wants to marry her, but she doesn t want to. So John slaps her. John realizes that in this day any age Everybody has become dependent on some form of technology.
Everybody has lost his or her sense of independence in this world. Then he goes home and hates what this world has come to. THE END 4. If there is a theme, what is it? In Huxley s own, words, the theme of Brave New World is the use of advanced technology and science and it s effects on humans. He expressed that each advance in science and technology was not only hailed as man s progress but also as the hope of man s future.
Huxley felt that this praise of technology and science was wrong and that the misuse of this knowledge results in evil. He wrote this novel 600 years into the future to help show that soon we might be working for machines. 7. Describe any social customs or attitudes of the time period described in the book. Aldous Huxley expresses his opinion in the theme. He wants people to be aware that knowledge is power. If we abuse this power, the results can be dangerous or even deadly.

I learned many valuable things form this book. It made me realize that some day we could be slaves to a computer. That we shouldnt depend so much on a computer, but that we should depend more on ourselves.
Though technology does bring some good things, we should not abuse this knowledge. 16. If the book has not been made into a movie, do you think the book would prove a good basis for a movie? I think that the novel Brave New World would make a great movie. It show people that this really can happen and if we do not do something about it soon and stop the abuse of knowledge, that this will happen. A movie called Gatica was made and it was very similar. Everybody was determined at birth when they would die and how they would die, and even what would you amount to in your life.
It was a very good movie. 17. Why did you choose this book? When I was in the bookstore I was looking over books to read. I asked the clerk about a couple of the books, out of all of them she recommended Brave New World. When I got it, I read the back and it seemed very interesting. 18. Would you recommend the book for others to read?
Explain Yes, I would definitely recommend this book for others to read. It really made me think about how everything might turn out in the future. It kept me reading; not very many novels can do that to me. It was also educational; made me think that we should control our own lives. 326
