Environmental Science Money has not been invented to make things that are physically possible financially impossible, but on the contrary, to facilitate things that are physically possible Quite a provocative statement was posted on my website this week for discussion. It claimed: In a market economy, food flows in the direction on economic demand. Need is not taken into consideration. To illustrate, in the event that there are hungry cats and hungry children, the food will go to the cats if the owners of the cats have money and the childrens parents dont. This statement caused a variety of reflections and discussions of different aspects of economic demand within the limits of environmental science. Environmental science embraces various aspects of study.
For example, it examines the science as a method of learning more about the world and claims that as far as the Earth is an interconnected system, the environmental problems always have a social and cultural context. Really, it is very important to understand the role of economic, social and cultural factors to develop solutions. The market economy has been facing a decline for several decades. It is evident that it needs to be reformed, as the increasing of taxation, decreasing of social benefits and other measures of this kind are not sufficient and cant be solution to the problem. Economic demand is quite a worrying aspect that should be taken into consideration. The solution should suppose the combination of economic demand and the demand for goods and services required for setting in motion and completing the process of sustainable development (The Need for a New Economics, n.
p. ) The solution should be also sufficient, that is, it must become a real solution to the problem and not lead to cuts in benefits in future years. What can be done to improve current situation? I believe, there are several tasks of primary importance, such as: - to create favorable conditions for private sector development; - to strengthen potential of governmental sector and to empathize on management effectiveness; - to increase the volume of investments in infrastructure and to increase their effectiveness; - to increase the effectiveness of rendering services with a view of social development. There is another worrying aspect to be taken into consideration the fact that level of poverty is constantly increases. Such economic-social changes show the decline of nation. It can be a permanent occurrence, but can last long.
So, it must be paid attention, too. Moreover, the improvement of the poverty situation will help to solve the correlation between economic demand and need without any reform, as if the level of poverty is low then there will be no problem at all. Another kind of solution can be found if the minimum wage will be increased. In such a way, the need will correspond to economic demand.
Everyone will benefit: the very poor will get access to services and a minimum income that will allow them to satisfy their basic needs. (Global Development, Ch. XII Action n. p. ) However, the attempts to increase a minimum wage are always met with controversial points of view since some economists and political leaders consider that these increases in minimum wage inevitably cause new inflations and make some businessmen to hire fewer workers. To tell with other words, new increases in minimum wage hurt people instead of helping them. Issues of correspondence of economic demand to economic need inevitably influence different groups of states population, e. g.
the young and the adult, men and women. The government should undertake all possible efforts to improve current situation. Bibliography: Global Development, Ch. XII Action.
