Current Events (1) We live in time when conceptual validity of sociological theories is being undermined by demographic trends within Western societies. This is because classical sociological concepts explain social dynamics within racially homogeneous societies. These concepts view society as open thermo-dynamical system, which can be characterized by the number of components, within its body, and by the quality of the links between these components, which bind system together. The existence of conflicts between the elements of the system prevents it from descending into the state of energetic entropy. However, the advent of multiculturalism brought about the situation when tension between systems elements causes them to exist in semi-independent mode, which in its turn, results in increasing the rate of social entropy and in creation of societies within society that are not subjected to conventional law, as it does not correspond to the notion of ethnic solidarity.

In this paper, we will analyze articles that view celebration of diversity, as such that undermine the very integrity of societies, affected by this doctrine. In his article The Death of Multiculturalism, David Brooks is making very good point when he suggests that more and more citizens realize the counter-productive essence of multiculturalism, as social concept that strives to adjust the objective reality to its ideological notions. Apparently, even the most notorious hawks of political correctness become concerned over the fact that, it is only the matter of time, before White people will find themselves a minority in their own country, if insanity of multiculturalism is allowed to gain a momentum: Democrats have come to understand that they need to pay less attention to minorities and more to the White working class if they ever want to become the majority party again. Democrats are purging the last vestiges of the New Left and returning to the older civic liberalism of the 1950 s and early 1960 s (Brooks).

Despite the fact, that Brooks article lacks the conceptual basis, as something that would allow author to substantiate his conclusions; the fact that New York Times published his article has value in itself. Karen Arenson and Al Baker, in their article Noose on Door at Columbia Prompts Campus Protest, provide us with insight on what causes the continuous deterioration of American society's integrity. In the article, authors talk about the case of Columbia University's Professor Madonna G. Constantine, who was caught plagiarizing the works of her colleagues. Mrs. Constantine specializes in racial relations, but it is color of her skin that qualified her for the job and not her professional adequateness.

Authors say: Students and professors wondered how this could happen at Teachers College, which cherishes its image as a bastion of liberalism and multiculturalism (Arenson, Baker). The answer is simple - the promotion of multiculturalism endorses racial mixing. In its turn, racial mixing undermines the society's integrity, because people affected by it, are less capable of operating with abstract matters, which corresponds to scientifically proven fact that such people score significantly lower at IQ tests. The only question here is what Mrs. Constantine was teaching students at Columbia University, given the fact that the level of her intelligence would only qualify her to apply for job at meat-processing plant, at best? The article The Trouble with Multiculturalism, by Leon Wieseltier, provides us with even better understanding of metaphysical fallacy of multiculturalism: Multicultural individuals, from the standpoint of the ancestral group and the inherited tradition, are lost individuals, and fallen.

They join, in their persons, influences and instructions that were not supposed to be joined (Wieseltier). As we have mentioned earlier, every society is nothing but an open thermo-dynamical system. If we leave any open system functioning, without being unattended, it will only be the matter of time, before structural links between the elements of a system will weaken, resulting in creation of thermo-dynamic mis balance. The policy of multiculturalism cannot benefit society in principle, because it strives to bring even more mis balance into the system. It is only after the great civilizations of the past had become multicultural that they were being easily sacked by the barbarians, as such that had lost its structural integrity. In his article A Mexican Baby Boom in New York Shows the Strength of a New Immigrant Group, Nina Bernstein suggests that sociological conflict theory fails to address issues that American society faces nowadays.

According to the theory, societies are being characterized by the levels of social inequality among citizens. Before hordes of illegal immigrants started to invade this country, such inequality was believed to have purely socio-political nature. However, nowadays, it appears that the social inequality among people directly corresponds to their racial makeup, which suggests that it is much too early to refer to theory of Social-Darwinism as unscientific. Author states: Nearly half of Mexicans in the city (NY) aged 16 to 19 are neither in school nor high school graduates (Bernstein). This cannot be explained by the fact that they are too poor to afford education, given their tendency to drive expensive sport-cars in the middle of the night, while playing primitive Hispanic tunes aloud.

Apparently, selling cocaine on the streets attracts such people more then prospects of obtaining education. (2) In his article Britannia Bites, Ian Jack suggests that, even though British politics revolve around the notion of national values, the essence of these values cannot be easily identified: In a country without a written constitution, national values can be slippery. What are they characteristics, aspirations, exemplary models of behavior, laws, traditions? Can food express a national value? (Jack). Author comes to conclusion that it is British national cuisine, which can be used as metaphysical foundation, upon which the notion of national value should be based. There is no doubt that authors idea sound definitely fresh, but only very few people can seriously believe that it might have a practical value, because he strives to transform the concept of national solidarity into something that is only related to the external manifestations of peoples existential mode. We can teach a newly arrived immigrant from Pakistan to eat porridge for breakfast, but it is very doubtful of whether this alone will enable such person to embrace British national spirit as his own.

The article Multicultural Harmony and Reality in Canada, by John Vinocur, explains why multicultural societies are much more prone to the dangers of terrorism than traditional ones. This is because, very often, socially destructive behavior, on the part of representatives of ethnic minorities, actually corresponds to their understanding of what the notion of celebration of diversity stands for. As far as visible minorities go, the idea of complete integration here is absurd. They have separate social circles; they do not believe they are Canadian says author and we can only agree with him. In his article, Vinocur provides us with numerous examples of how contradictory the sociological concepts of multiculturalism are. For example, the long dagger is the essential part of Sikh national costume.

Should Sikh be allowed to carry weapons, as part of celebrating their identity? This question is highly rhetorical, of course. In his article Why I Published the Muhammad Cartoons, Flemming Rose provides readers with explanation why it is important for citizens in Western countries to defend their national values, especially when they face the dangers of Islamic terrorism in their own countries, thanks to Liberal politicians, who never get tired of poisoning peoples minds with left-wing propaganda: Now, in Europe's failure to grapple realistically with its dramatically changing demographic picture, I see a new parallel to that Cold War journey. Europe's left is deceiving itself about immigration, integration and Islamic radicalism today the same way we young hippies deceived ourselves about Marxism and communism 30 years ago (Rose). Author sees the posting of anti-Islamic cartoons in Danish newspapers as the legitimate social reaction of Danish citizens.

Apparently, many Danes do not like the idea of them becoming a minority in their own country. Slowly but surely the concept of multiculturalism reveals its true colors, which is why more and more people, around the world, begin to directly associate it with mental illness, on the part of those who promote it. The article Schlesinger Sees Free Speech in Peril, by William Honan, argues that it is wrong to refer to social dangers of multiculturalism as such that will only have long-run consequences. In fact, the hawks of political correctness strive to deprive citizens of their constitutional rights, as we speak. Author describes the case of Professor Schlessinger, who was being labeled as sexist, chauvinist and racist, simply because he criticized campuses speech code as such that opposes the concept of democracy. Author quotes Schlesinger: It is ironic that the celebration of diversity concludes in a demand for conformity.

They (censors) would have our educational system reinforce, promote and perpetuate separate ethnic communities and do so at the expense of the idea of a common culture and a common national identity (Honan). We can only wonder why such a blatant disrespect to constitutional norms, on the part of educators in colleges, often goes unpunished. In his article The World: What's in a Name? ; Redefining Minority, Susan Sachs suggests that it appears to be only the matter of time, before Hispanic community in U. S. will become the strongest ethnic minority.

She actually think of this as something very positive: Nurturing the idea of Latinos as a politically and socially aggrieved minority has helped the diverse components of the population -- people from every country in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, Central and South America and Mexico - find a unified voice on the national stage (Sachs). However, as we have mentioned earlier, history teachers us otherwise the less there are White people in every particular country to maintain civilization, the faster such country descends into savagery. The lack of social and cultural progress, associated with Latin American countries, directly corresponds to citizens racially mixed hereditary. The idea of building a wall along Mexican border is a pathetic attempt of preventing American society from becoming mongrelized to even a further extent. Warren Hoges article Britains Nonwhites Feel Un-British, Report Says describes demographic trends within British society as such that have a potential of changing the very essence of Britain in next few decades. Author does not think that there is anything wrong about it, which largely undermines the validity of articles conclusions.

The social alienation, on the part newly arrived immigrants, he explains by the fact that they were being historically oppressed a typical song of a Liberal who has a hard time coming to terms with objective reality. We can say that reviewed articles allows us to conclude that doctrine of multiculturalism needs to be referred to as such that represent clear and immediate danger to the well-being of traditional societies, as it undermines the quality of social systems components and causes them to loose their structural links. This results in marginalization of society and in consequent cultural decline. Bibliography: Arenson, Karen and Baker, Al Noose on Door at Columbia Prompts Campus Protest. 11 Oct. 2007.
