Earlier in a party which Romeo and his friends crashed, he met and instantly fell in love with Juliet who happens to be the daughter of his family's sworn enemy -- - the Capulet family. Moved by these strong feelings for Juliet, Romeo separated from his best friend (Mercutio) and cousin (Benvolio) on their way home from the Capulets ball; he leaped over a wall to get into the Capulets orchard. While there he quietly and tenderly sing out his praises and admiration of Juliet by exalting her beauty and magnificence; comparing her to the heavenly bodies and other charming things on earth. Scene 2: 114 - 116 and Scene 2: 123 - 127) that were analyzed in this paper refers to Juliets worries, reservations and uncertainties about the future and fate of their love as well as the sincerity and seriousness of Romeos love for her particularly that Romeo is using flowery words to describe and proclaim his feelings for her. Even though she cautioned Romeo from promising and avowing especially his act of imploring the moons presence as the witness, it is clear that Juliets feeling for Romeo is serious and true. Shakespeare in his aim to present a womans natural qualms and worries about anything uncertain has also highlighted and depicted the genuineness of Juliets love and devotion for Romeo. The passages were taken from different parts of the conversation ensuing between Romeo and Juliet but the topic of both centered on Juliets apparent mistrust and reservation on and about promises.
She was telling Romeo (on the first passage) that even though she seems to be a lady who easily fall prey to emotions (because she proclaimed her love for him in such as short time) Romeo should not take it so lightly. She wants him to know that she will definitely be hurt if Romeo proved to be unfaithful in his declarations of love. On his part, Romeo tried to dispel Juliets doubts by imploring to the moon to be his witness but Juliet stopped him saying that swearing by the moon might as well like promising a wavering love and affection. These lines only proved the seriousness that Juliet feels and also her uncertainty about Romeos love for her given the circumstances that they are in. The second passage is still about Romeos pledging and avowal of love which Juliet says she believed yet again her doubts becomes the central point in the passage. She has unwittingly declared her love during her earlier monologue so she cannot deny it from Romeo but she expressed her reluctance to have faith in what Romeo swore to be his feelings and her worries about their loves future since everything has been too fast and too hasty for her.
