Childhood Obesity According to the recent sociological surveys, 33 % of children in American High Schools are obese and their percentage continues to increase, which is going to create a situation when, in very near future, the majority of American children will begin having a health problems very early in their lives, unless Federal government adopts a comprehensive program of how to deal with the issue of child obesity. One of the reasons why children gain an excessive weight is that they spend an increasing amount of time watching TV and playing computer games. Also, they are being indoctrinated by the hawks of political correctness to be proud of what they are, which causes them to conclude that it is not necessary to do physical workouts or to watch what they eat. It appears that Medias have power of both; increasing the level of health awareness among youth or reducing it, because their influence on shaping up the mentality of young people cannot be underestimated.
Unfortunately, since Medias depend on commercial advertising, it very rare that we can associate them with promotion of healthy lifestyles. For example, even Outdoor channel features advertising of snacks that are full of cholesterol, during commercial breaks. Thus, in order for the Medias to be a positive factor, when it comes to combating child obesity, their owners need to think about the well-being of the nation; they belong to, more than they do about increasing their profits. The pushers of leftist agenda in schools never get tired of repeating that physical ugliness it is not something that children need to be ashamed of. This message is being conveyed to children by Medias as well, because they view children as potential consumers. Consumerism, in its turn, is incompatible with healthy living.
Thus, government needs to impose laws that would prevent Medias from benefiting on childrens naivety, when it comes to advertising products. In addition, the current diversity celebration and promotion of tolerance policies that are being deployed in public schools nowadays need to be reconsidered. Instead of punishing bullies, schools might have to begin rewarding them, so that they would continue chasing children around, thus helping them to get rid of excessive weight. The role of Medias, in this respect, would be creating a positive image of physical activity as such that helps individual to realize its full potential.
