WHAT DOES REALITY CONSIST? Reality is a most frequently used and encountered word. But seldom do we care to ponder about this word that appears simple and plain to us. We simply are satisfied by merely understanding the meaning it bears in forming a sentence that we come upon or write.
However, in reality, reality carries with it a thick coating of definition and implications with it that has never been explained perfectly. Nor would it be en easy task to make understand its meaning and elements in two pages. We really need a thorough perusal and brain-work from varied angles to define this word. It is a very bad habit on the part of the modern people to excessively depend on the philosophical conclusions kept ready for us by the ancient philosophers like Aristotle, Plato and many others.
We study what they had thought several centuries ago, discuss and ague them and write about them in the exam! A Political Science teacher would be reluctant to give mark to a student no matter how well he has written, if he does not write according to thoughts given by some famous political scientists! It is a funny fact- as though the ideas of the ancient men are infallible, as though we must follow their doctrine, as though our modern minds are too immature to combat theirs. While not totally disregarding the ideas of the ancient brains, today let us give ourselves a 2007 A. D. definition. To identify what elements constitute reality, let us understand it definitions. A thing or a situation that really exists must be termed without any doubt, reality. Here, we must do away with all subjects of uncertainties, probable, assumptions, fantasy, dreams and imagination.
To still make stronger our stand, let us identify some elements: Reality must consist of only existing things or situations that can be seen, felt, heard, smelt, done or proved. Anything that falls short of at least one of the factual preconditions cannot be considered a reality. Obviously, we clearly sense two kinds of realities- The Abstract Reality and the Concrete Reality. Life, joy, sadness, pain, goodness, fever, worries are all things and situations that exist though we cannot put them on a platter like a matter can be.
But we can never say that they do not exist. We feel the pain and happiness of the life we live! We have proof of them. These form the abstract reality. Apart from these, Ideas, knowledge and understanding can be called realities only if they are about real things.
It may be clarified that a good knowledge about a thing or situation that has no proof is never a reality. One may have unreal knowledge of many things! Same applies with ideas and understanding. The concrete reality needs no further explanation. As long as there is no misnomer or confusion of identity, nothing can be more real than the tangible objects all around us. Small or big or huge, they are all forms of reality.
Thus, reality consists of the following facts discussed briefly above. Wider understanding and explanation can be drawn from the above explanation if we really allow our brains to think deeper and extract the realities from the hints.
