Mind-binding leads to energy-binding. By keeping her belief system closed, she restricted herself physically as well as mentally to connect with her husband more than ever after the incident. The emotional blocks that results from these experience controls the direction of her reasoning, s that her beliefs are usually emotionally consistent with her fears, rather than what clear reasoning and an unbiased look at the evidence would lead her to conclude. She almost dies in the vehicular accident after initially refusing help from the white cop but trust is developed in that particular instance and they both save their lives. She restored her faith in life at that instance because having faith means knowing that her times of doubt and despair are not only all right, but are necessary questioning of the way she lives her life. The other characters in the film needed to question intensely, too, to keep growing.
From these times come some of their deepest insights and revaluing's. Life without doubt is stagnation, a deadened Polyannas dream. Thus, to the degree that they find their faith in themselves and in life, they free themselves from these dark fears and apprehensions. When they feel their faith in each other, they feel full and good and the sun is in their hearts. Perhaps, one kind of prejudice that we all share is the prejudices about ourselves. It is a way of thinking, feeling and acting. The more prejudiced we are toward people and events, the more prejudiced we are toward ourselves. So, we tend to apply to ourselves our prejudices about people and things in general. For instance, in the film, if the Black man holds the prejudice like A man doesnt cry, even if confronted with extreme injustice, then he will carry that with him and his relationship with his wife. Given a situation such as the one that befell them, his own prejudices took the form of feeling hostile toward an entire group of people.
When he does that, he responds to any member of that group as a group member rather than as a unique individual. So, he can prejudge a member of the group without ever having met that person, and without knowing anything about him or her. When he is prejudiced in favor of a person or group, he is likely to refuse to perceive or believe anything unfavorable about that person or group, and he can act in ways that give them special advantages. Being the object of discrimination is usually a punishing experience, one that can engrave deep feelings in a person.
People who have lived through years of prejudice and discrimination share feelings and experiences that others will never fully understand. As one works to get in touch with his own prejudices, he may find that much of it is a projection of what one wont face in himself. When one is prejudiced toward one group, he can create a deadness inside him and toward all the members of that group. The more such spots of deadness he has, the less he is alive.
When he meet someone from that group, he pays little attention to that person as an individual, and learn almost nothing about him or her.
