Nonetheless, in this plan, I shall try to cover any concerns in an effort to show how to further benefit the Macropus gigantes. My first concern is the kangaroo's habitat. Kangaroos can survive in very dense packs, called mobs, as has been shown by studies recording as many as 357 kangaroos per square kilometer living in a single nature reserve. However, they prefer to have more land available to them for grazing, as they feed primarily on shrubs and grasses that grow in the open fields. To address this, I would propose a solution that has proven effective in raising the populations in the past; deforestation.

Kangaroos do not utilize the densely wooded areas in any way that would make them beneficial to keep. They have been known to live in the open woodlands, though. When heavily wooded areas are thinned or completely destroyed, this provides more grazing area for the kangaroo, allowing for a higher population carrying capacity. However, it must be stressed that some shade trees must be kept, as the kangaroos like to rest under them to cool off from the intense Australian sun.

Another major concern is the killing of the kangaroo population by farmers. Farmers hunt the kangaroos because they feel that the kangaroo grazes on too much of its land, therefore being detrimental to the farm. A simple solution to this that benefits the kangaroo is to simply buy out the farms and convert the farmland into grasslands that the kangaroos can graze in freely. The farmer benefits from the buyout, and the kangaroo population can continue to increase.

Another problem the Gray Kangaroo faces is being struck by cars. Roads often cut through the bush lands in Australian, often without any king of fence or barrier to keep wildlife from wandering onto the highway and being killed. Thousands of kangaroos are killed each year because of this. One solution is to fence off the highways that cut through kangaroo habitat. This would require extremely high and strong fences, as kangaroos are very powerful jumpers and will squirm through a fence if there is a gap found. The fences would also have to be buried deeply into the soil, as kangaroos have been known to dig under fences to graze on the land on the other side.

A more effective solution would be to stop all the traffic through the bush. That would eliminate the road kill problem. A more feasible solution though, is to simply reduce the speed limit in the bus areas so that if a kangaroo were by chance to be hit by a car, it would not be killed. This would also require speed traps to enforce these new limits. If the speed limits were reduced to such a degree, traffic would also more than likely lessen, as people would find a faster route of travel.

This solution, while it may not completely eliminate all road deaths, it would greatly reduce them, and be the most productive to both humans and kangaroos. The predators that the Eastern Grey Kangaroo faces are not too numerous, but should be reduced to promote better kangaroo populations. The worst predator that the kangaroo faces after man is the dingo and other wild dogs. These dogs often travel in packs that will attack the kangaroo mob, injuring and killing members. These animals also create a problem for other creatures, too, as they can carry diseases that can spread to man, such as rabies. This, combined with the fact that the dingo and wild dog population is out of control proves that steps need to be taken to reduce their population.

This could be done with poisoning, but that has too many risks, as other animals might die from eating poisoned meat intended for wild dogs. Another was is lethal injection, but that also has its drawbacks, as it requires that the animal be subdued or injured. This is also costly on a large-scale basis that would be required for a population reduction such as this. The best solution for culling the wild dog population would be shooting. This method is recognized as the most target specific and humane way in reducing a large population. This would also be one of the easiest forms of culling, as wild dogs tend to travel in packs.

It also eliminates the possibility of the undesired killing of another animal. All this said, I must stress the fact that there must be some predation of kangaroos, but by their natural predators. This is to keep the population healthy and strong, because the natural predators take out the old, weak, and sick. This keeps the best genes in the gene pool, therefore improving the kangaroo population over time.

Therefore, there should be only a reduction of the wild dog population, and not a complete elimination, as that would end up causing more harm than good. All of these suggestions require time and money, and some of them would not show immediate results. This said, it should be known that this is to be true in almost any plan to increase a population. However, all of these suggestions would do exactly what they are intended to do; increase the population of the Eastern Gray Kangaroo.
