This is said to symbolize the never ending battle between good and evil or love and hate. Montezuma continued his rein as a powerful ruler. He then got smarter. As he was returning to Mexico he spilt his military into three ways.
With this he conquered more land and captured more people. Also he gained more power for Aztecs as well as for himself. For the next few years all Montezuma could think about was the prophecy about Quetzalcoatl. The thought of him returning was on his mind, and how he would step down to serve Quetzalcoatl his lord. Finally people were arriving at the Gulf of Mexico. They came in gigantic wooden horses.
In the prophecy it states that Quetzalcoatl would return with monsters at his ride. Montezuma was quickly convinced that the horses were monsters. As he witnessed this, he knew that all time was about to change along with everything else. Then reports came in and he found out that the people had swords of more power than the Aztecs. He heard stories of deer's with no horns (horses) which were used to run over people. Montezuma was now aware that these were human men, but they had come to prepare for the coming of Quetzalcoatl.
The strangers brought things that were unread to Montezuma. Things like green crystal and clear crystal, also bronze and gold but all in the shape of beads. Yet the one thing that led Montezuma to his theory was that in between the strangers there were two priest. After these happenings Montezuma had fallen into depression. He refused to eat and to take any action. Suddenly the thought of trying to fight them off entered him.
H e would not give up his power of rule without a fight. He began to look for differences in the constellations and for other signs. He received a gray cane, in which he thought was his mighty god Blue Humming Bird whom everything Montezuma had done was for him. Montezuma received a vision for the bird, wanting a second opinion he called for prophets. The prophets though, were too scared to tell him it meant the downfall of Mexico was near. Then hunchbacks and two headed men red the streets.

Montezuma grew suspicious of how the man reached the palace as quickly as he had. He also saw that his toes had been cut as well as his ears. Montezuma had the man placed in a cage.
In the morning the man was gone. Just as Montezuma had suspected it was a message of the gods. Montezuma was starting to give in. He sent for jewels to be made for Quetzalcoatl.
When he sent the men with the gifts the Spanish had landed. There stood a man all in black said to be Quetzalcoatl. He had a chain with a cameo, which was taken to be the wind-jewel of Quetzalcoatl. Hernado Cortes which was the man being confused for Quetzalcoatl was quickly dressed in Quetzalcoatl's robes he was presented with the most precious treasures of Mexico.
Cortes showed then their gods which was the lady with the boy (Virgin Mary) and the man on the cross (Jesus Christ). Montezuma heard of all that was happening and knew he must now face destruction. Cortes quickly started conquering cities and land. He killed many people and burned the great city of the Cards Roch. Montezuma was angered and vowed to fight hard until the end. He made many sacrifices, asking for power and magic from the gods, to Quetzalcoatl right.
Montezuma tried giving him meat with magic of Blue Hummingbird but the meat was detected. Cortes then asked for a meeting with Montezuma. The morning had come Cortes held a mass before meeting Montezuma. Then Cortes with his translator Malinche met the Great Montezuma.
Each looked at each other. Montezuma then showed the palace to Cortes. He also invited him to a sacrifice, where many felt unsafe. They were all fed and pampered as if they were kings.
In more talks between Cortes and Montezuma, Cortes told him of his King. Montezuma thought it was strange but arranged gifts to be sent Shortly Cortes set up another meeting in which he demanded that Montezumas palace should be his and the guest palace would be Montezumas. Montezuma with no other choice was held captive in the palace. He spoke with Cortes and held an agreement that in the days to come of battle the children would be put at no harm. Montezuma though was not treated as a prisoner he went on hunting expeditions with the Spaniards. Then a message for Cuba came that Cortes was to be arrested.
Cortes quickly assembled an army to defend themselves. Then Montezuma began to question Cortes. Later all the people began to question Cortes. No longer did anyone believe he was the god Quetzalcoatl. Montezuma could do nothing for Cortes. Cortes had gained too much power.
Montezuma was now thinking of leaving the earth. He wished to leave before the destruction of his city. All wars started breaking out and Montezuma stayed in the palace waiting for his fate of death. The Aztecs fought hard and the Spaniards feared for their lives. They asked Montezuma to make them surrender but he did nothing. Instead as he stood and looked out stones were thrown at him.
Montezuma refused any care and he suffered. Shortly after he was dead. No one really knows how he died for the Aztecs blame the Spaniards. And the Spaniards blame the Aztecs. Montezumas body was never honored Bibliography:
