It symbolized how I feel, that once a debt is repaid there should no longer be a held grudge. I dont understand how he could have done anything more than what he had already done. He was not perfect, only flesh and blood like the rest. 10) I had no idea of why Pearl obsessed about the reverend always holding his hand over his heart until the last few pages of the book. I had supposed that it was because he felt guilty for what he had done.
I found out the whole truth later, that it was because he had a scarlet letter over his heart as well. 34 c
