On the mourning of April 20, Erik Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, sat in their cars in the parking lot of Columbine High School, strapped on their guns and ammunition. and donned long black Western-type duster coats to conceal their weapons. Neither the diversionary bomb theyd planted two miles from the school to distract the police, nor the two propane bombs theyd hidden in the schools cafeteria. had exploded.
So the pair simply walked into their Littleton, Colorado, high school and calmly murdered twelve students and and a forty-seven-year-old science teacher. The massacre ended when the two, denying their victims or their families justice, committed suicide before they were forced to face their punishment. As Harris and Klebold entered the library, they fired off shots and then laughed as their victims cried out in terror. Dont worry, one of them said in a sadistically reassuring manner, youre going to be dead in a few minutes.
Then, the pair proceeded to randomly shoot anyone in their sights. Klebold spotted seventeen-year-old Kasey Ruegsegger, said, Peekaboo, and shot her. Ruegseggar survived. Harris found Cassie Bernard huddled under a table. He aimed his gun at her and asked tauntingly if she believed in God.
Cassie replied. Yes, I believe in God. Harris asked her, Why? and murdered her before she could answer. The rampage in the library ended with ten students dead. At around noon, the killers fired a few rounds at the police and then raised their weapons to themselves.
By 12: 05 p. m. , they were dead. Erik Harris and Dylan Klebold, like countless other kids who didnt fit in, the two loners forged a bond from their feelings of hatred. Both Harris and Klebold came from stable middle-class families which was held in high regard by friends, neighbors and associates. It was soon discovered that Erik Harris had a website posted which openly expressed his anger toward the people of Littleton, especially teachers and students at Columbine High School. On the site, Harris had begun to express his desires to for revenge against everyone that had irritated or annoyed him.
Many of their teachers described the youths as being depressed, angry, and admires of Nazism. While the Police investigation into the shooting at Columbine High School has done much to reveal the events of Tuesday, April 20, 1999, the question as to why is still very much a mystery.
