For making sound decisions that are moral, one needs to base his or her personal ethics on something he or she truly believes in and backs up one hundred and ten percent. The ability to make right decisions in hard cases and also to maintain the trust that one must have in their method of decision making is crucial. Prudential Personalism is an extremely beneficial method for moral decision making. It is very practical and goal-oriented. This method uses the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love and keeps a balance between faith and reason, and is primarily a Christian method. It emphasizes the importance of prudence for making morally sound choices.

As soon as one uses prudence to guide him or her, the other moral attributes follow. This law helps people to essentially make good moral choices. This principle fortunately follows the three moral criteria, which is action (the things we do), motive (our reasons for our actions), and situation (what causes us to do these things). One can choose to do good or one can choose to do evil, but either way, one must intelligently plan his or her life and actions in light of the situations he or she finds him or herself in. Some people intend to do good actions, yet do not always accomplish what they set out to do.

God urges man "to do what is good and avoid what is evil. This means that everyone is obliged to follow this law, regardless of his or her earthly importance. If one does not follow these laws, he will have to deal with Jimmy Cricket, the dreaded conscience who ALWAYS makes himself heard, whether one wants him to or not. Life is always a struggle for man to avoid these tempting evils that present themselves. While exercising his freedom, man sometimes falls prey to intrinsically evil acts.

By following simple moral laws that one learns in kindergarten -- such as don't hurt people, use gentleness and compassion; don't tell lies; and don't take more than your fair share, along with many others -- people should not be such slaves to Satan, but unfortunately many people are. In this world, there are more liars and cheaters than there are moral. Morality tells us not to steal. One who is tempted to steal is morally bound not to, and one who continuously concedes to that temptation is an immoral person. If one steals when he knows he shouldnt, this is not an act that is done out of true knowledge and love for God-the sole purpose of this method of moral decision making.

Perhaps the reason there are so many evils and evil people in the world is because sometimes evil turns out in the end to be goods in disguise. When people wrong others, or are wronged themselves, it teaches them to suffer, which in turn sometimes makes for remarkable and admirable people. Who knows? People have a natural tendency to parallel evil with stupidity. Being stupid, per se, is not evil, or at least, not what evil people are trying to do. Rather, the majority of people who are evil simply do not comprehend that the damage they do has such a large effect, or they simply do not recognize that what they do is destructive or disruptive.

One can be a good person yet cause incredible harm just through in cognizance of the aftereffects of his behavior. This is unfortunate, but not evil. Evil is that person who knows the harmful nature of his actions yet chooses to do them anyway, despite the harm, just to get something they want. As I mentioned previously, no one is spared from having a conscience, but if one is truly ignorant of the detrimental consequences of his actions, is he evil or just unfortunate? We do not judge animals as we do humans, but should we? Animals lack the capacity to make moral judgments.

Creatures do not do anything for good or evil reasons, because they are, in essence, neutral beings. There are only two reasons for them to kill out of fear (to save their lives) or simply because of need for food. They sleep where they find shelter. They do not worry about the moral consequences of their actions, because their actions are instinctive. Humans are not like that.

We are not merely animals, because we have the capacity to think intellectually. If a human kills another human being, there are any number of reasons for doing so, most of which are not logical in any sense of the word. All in all, this method causes much to be discussed, but is a very practical way of decision making-something that everyone can relate to. In order to make meaningful definitions one must set the standard upon which all others will be compared, and this is one method that tops others. Bibliography: none
