Samora has been my best friend for almost three years now, unlike many of my other friends he comes from a totally different lifestyle than me. He grew up with out any parents, and had to learn to support himself at a very young age. He has never been spoiled, or taken care of. Nor has he been taught most morals and values that children learn from their family. Without the guidance of his parents one may believe that he leads a life of ignorance that lacks self-discipline.
Contrary to what most think, he is well-mannered, respectful, understanding, grateful, trusting, motivated, loving, and most importantly embraces his ideal ethics. Not only is he a great person, but ultimately an unconditional friend. It would be impossible to put his incredible personality into words on paper, but I can share some of his traits that I find significant in his friendship. The key to a lasting friendship is trust, which is also vital in all relationships.
Sammy has my trust and has for a long time, never has he used it or taken advantage of it. We have both built a strong relationship so we can discuss anything and not be afraid of the other persons thoughts. Having trust in place allows other things to fall in place, like being comfortable enough to be yourself, and share your inner most thoughts. Sammy is a friend that I have grown attached to, unlike any of my other relationships, with him I can share my fears, and I know he will remain silent. A people person is what he is, talking, charming, and socializing is his nature. I however am an introvert, Sammy being the complete opposite motivates me to open up and take risks.
Not only on a social level but also in the big scheme of life he is an inspiration. Samora is always thinking of his future and the things he will accomplish, to him nothing is a dream everything is attainable and if wanted badly enough can become reality. Because he is so optimistic and has a philosophy for everything, his words of wisdom encourage and stimulate my intelligence. He was deprived as a child, and perhaps still is, but he works hard and no matter the situation is always hopeful.
Whenever I feel stuck, or miserable he persuades me to get back up. Respect is, and always will be an important piece of all my friendships. This is something Sammy has for everyone, no matter the gender age or sex. The admiration he displays is evident in all his relationships, because in return he is treated with respect and dignity by practically everyone. He has always appreciated my opinions and decisions, even when he strongly opposed.
He treats me the way he probably should have been treated his entire childhood, with respect, love, and guidance. Although Sammy had no parental support or direction, he has developed excellent principles. I think it is essential for everyone to have his or her own beliefs and morals, which help mould them into the individual they are. Most of my friends come from similar families and lifestyles, so their values are very comparable. Sammy on the other hand is unique, he has his own philosophy for life, which he fabricated himself by learning and watching different cultures and environments. He didnt have one role model influence his views; he incorporated the positive aspects of many diverse lifestyles into his values.
It is very hard to find a true friend; they only come along a few times in a lifetime. So when they do make sure you take good care of them and treat them with all the love and respect they have shown you.
