In Shakespeare s play Romeo and Juliet, The Characters Romeo and Tybalt utterly despise each other but oddly enough, that is one of the things that they have in common. Both Romeo and Tybalt share the same characteristic of immaturity. Throughout the play, everything they do reflects pure immaturity. The results of their actions suggest that they do not think through what they are doing, or for that matter even care what happens. They play begins with members of the two feuding families, the Montague's and the Capulets in a brawl.

This is when we are first introduced to Tybalt. What drawn and talk of peace? I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montague's, and thee. Have at the coward! (text pg. 291) When Tybalt speaks, his words reflect his immaturity. He says he hate peace and all Montague's. He couldn t possibly know the Montague's well enough to hate every single one of them.

He knows of their last name and believes he hates them solely for that reason. He also stated that he hates peace. His hate of peace is in a way what leads to his own death. When Tybalt angrily killed Mercutio without thinking about the consequences, and the problems that could arise, he was then killed by and Romeo who was upset by his good friend s death. If Tybalt didn t want hostility so badly, he could have prevented his death. Rome killing Tybalt gives an indication of Romeo s immaturity.

At first, Romeo said he had to love Tybalt because they were family, and that was why Romeo felt it wouldn t be right to fight him. Then after Mercutio was killed my Tybalt, Romeo impulsively murdered Tybalt. Romeo acted out of anger and not once did he stop to think it through. He later cried, not because he took Tybalt s life, or because Mercutio was dead, but because he was worried he would never see his love Juliet again.

The first time Romeo saw Juliet is another time when Romeo s immaturity and impulsiveness can be perceived. Did my heart love till now? For swear it, sight. For I have never seen true beauty till this night. (text pg. 307) Romeo sees Juliet for the first time and he is convinced that he is in love. He does not anything about her, he only sees that she is beautiful, and he falls in love with her beauty. Juliet brings about another act of immaturity from Romeo.

When Juliet fakes her own death, Romeo, not knowing that she is not really dead, immediately decides that he cannot live anymore without her and thinks he has to kill himself. He does not make sure he has all the facts straight. He doesn t think about what he is leaving behind, or who he might hurt, he only thinks of himself and the pain he is going through. Romeo s impulsiveness displays his immaturity Romeo in a way may have been more mature than Tybalt. Tybalt hates peace.

Romeo did not want to fight. He was a lover not a fighter. Tybalt, the reason that I have to love thee doth much excuse the appertaining rage to such a greeting. Villain am I none, therefore farewell. I see thee knowest me not. (text pg. 336) Romeo doesn t feel that it would be right to fight Tybalt. This is one of the few times that Romeo actually thinks through the situation.

Tybalt remains completely impulsive throughout the play. Romeo and Tybalt both share the same characteristic of immaturity. Tybalt s impulsive nature only leads to disaster. Romeo s sudden love for Juliet, murder of Tybalt, and death are completely irrational. Romeo and Tybalt not thoroughly thinking through the situations they got themselves into possibly even adds excitement to the play.

Their irresponsibility lines up the end of the play, so in a way, their impulsive immaturity ends the problems in Verona. They may have ended the feud.
