Cat on a Hot Tin Roof was published by Tennessee Williams in 1958. This Pulitzer Prize- Winning Drama is a passion that besets a wealthy Southern family whose lives are stripped of pretense in a shattering moment of revelation. In this drama, a wealthy land owner, Big Daddy is celebrating his sixty-fifth birthday. The family's conflicts are suddenly, relentlessly exposed in an explosive series of climax that forces each of them to realize that their father (Big Daddy) is dying of The play starts out in Nile Valley, at Big Daddys house. His family is planning a birthday party for him. His two children Brick Gooper, and their wives are talking about decorations for the party.
Brick, is the alcoholic son, that is tortured by the death of his best friend and his guilt about their relationship. Brick feels responsible for his best friend (Skippers) death. Gooper is the son that doesnt care for his brother or his father, all he wants is to inherit his fathers money after he dies. Maggie, is Bricks wife.
She is tormented by her longing for husband that despises her, and she cannot possess her need for security. Mae is Gooper's wife, she is just like her husband. They have several children and not enough money to take care of them. That is why they are waiting to inherit his fathers money. Then Big Daddy enters the room, he has just found out that he is dying of cancer. The family is in an uproar, they are trying to find all of the best doctors in the south to help their father.
The family called Doctor Baugh (Baw). He prescribed several different medicines for him to take. After many check-ups with Dr. Baugh, he said that Big Daddy, had recovered.
When Gooper heard the news he was upset, while the others were excited to hear that their father would be all right. Brick was more excited than anyone. He and his father had a connection that couldnt anyone understand or tear apart. As the story progressed, Big Daddy became ill again. This time there was nothing anyone could do about it. Big Daddy couldnt do anything but go sit on the hot tin roof and cried until Brick came to check on him.
