Peer Pressure the ultimate downfall. College experiences can change the habits and views of almost anybody. These experiences are not like any you have ever had before. Many problems occur during this process of adjustment. One in particular causes great turmoil among many students. This known as peer pressure.

Peer pressure can take any person and change his other views towards life, usually for the worse. All types of peer pressure are essentially the same, they just occur in different forms and situations. It is most often seen in the dorms and within fraternities or sororities. Peer pressure in the dorms can cause an individual to stray from homework and productive activities.

Productive activities could include involvement of campus organizations or getting jobs. Dorm life influences many people to sit around in rooms and do absolutely nothing productive unless it involves conquering video games. Most college students find it easier to fall into bad habits than spend their time doing something worthwhile. These habits can range anywhere from smoking cigarettes and being lazy to experimenting with alcohol and drugs. Once involved with these habits, it becomes very hard to stop them. There are not very many ways to stop these activities from happening.

However, informational meetings could be held by school officials at the beginning of each semester to properly educate students. If students could be warned of the negative effects of peer pressure and given advice on how to cope with peer pressure. Sororities and fraternities is a great peer pressure for students. This type of organization consumer a large portion of students frees time, where as students could use this time to concentrate on schoolwork or even activities to help out the less fortunate. Peer pressure among these organizations is the strongest type of pressure that effects college students. Sororities stress unity of all and one hundred percent supports of all their activities.

This includes hazing, rituals, beer drinking parties, and even drugs. Any types of resistance to these activities could cause an individual to be socially banned and to lose their new friends. These choices are one that puts moral issues against social issues; which makes for a very decision to be made. Should students do what their parents taught them, or should they do whatever it takes to become socially acceptable, even if it involves committing a crime. Heavier restrictions should be set on how much the fraternities and sororities were allowed to do to the pledges and the current members.

Restrictions would make these types of organizations; he or she will look into them and chose the one they feel is the best choice. It must be remembered that the decisions that made in college can change the course of our lives at any time. Values must weighed and placed on our daily rituals. Peer pressure is something that can be overcome. College is a large adjustment to from high school. All of us are essentially on our own without supervision.

I f we do not second guess ourselves and question our actions, we can very easily have peer pressure all around us.
