Lord of the Flies By: William Golding William Golding's Lord of the Flies is just not an ordinary novel about a group of young boys stranded on an island but also a contrast and explanation to the many different types of political ideologies that are revealed in itself. In the story different types of characters present a variety of government that relate to our world today. Simon, a pure individual who accepts consequences for his own actions tells us he is a self-seeker. On the other hand, Jack is a narrow-minded character similar to a fact. Lastly, Piggy, a chubby boy with glasses contributes his ideas of cooperation and peace in order to survive.
All of these characters represent what can occur in social order as people of a time try to meet their needs. Simon is an independent free thinker whose identity is defined by unique characteristics. His judgement towards Ralph tells us that even though the other boys are pessimistic about the rescue, Simon looks to the good side and tries to comfort his friend. He takes individual initiative when he says, Ill go if you like. I dont mind, honestly. Although there may be danger, Simon is willing to risk and be responsible for his personal actions. When Simon tries to tell the other boys about his ordeal which has led to his own death, the individual knows hes responsible for his personal well being.
He wanders off alone shows that hes an egoist. Lord of the Flies basically confirms to Simon that the Beast really is inside everyone. The threat of being killed clearly foreshadows the ending of Simons life. Simon still tries to warn the others but fails in the end. This type of character thinks and does things privately but thinks about the whole situation and what is best for the people. In our world, people that are similar to this tend to sacrifice and risk for the better.
Another character that portrays a type of ideology is Jack Merridew. He is one of the older boys but skinnier. Jack represents absolutism- where he takes control over social activities and everyone follows him. He is an authoritarian, an autocrat and a despot. His tribe does well, hunting pigs, killing sows and stealing glasses, but this also leads to people who are innocently killed- Simon. Jack is a cruel, oppressive ruler also known as a tyrant and he always tries to maintain his control over the other boys.
His actions are not limited and there was only to obey and not opposition. Jack doesnt believe in democracy but rather believes in totalitarian. And the conch doesnt count at this end of the island-. This shows that he doesnt want a different type of government to interfere with his. Tie them up. See?

Jack is trying to force Sam and Eric into his tribe although they are under Ralph's power. I cut the pigs throat, said Jack proudly. He is proud of his actions even though people disagree with them. His savage personality and ability of telling people what to do allows him to overtake Ralph as chief.
It allows people in our world to dominate others. Lastly, Piggy is the type of character that is smart on the inside but because of his inability to do certain physical actions; the other boys on the island dominate him. His glasses, rather owned by the boys are a symbol of socialism. Piggy wants to bring harmony on the island and agrees with Ralph all the time that rules and order is needed. It was his idea to use the conch as a tool to call the meeting and most of the time Piggy's opinions and say did not affect much to the boys.
He tries hard to cling to civilization and also tries best to keep peace. Which is better? To be a pack of painted niggers like you are, or to be sensible like Ralph is? To have laws and obey All of these quotes tell us the significance in having an order.
Piggy complains about not getting the right to speak when he has the conch because he believes that in order for things to be done properly, there must be a plan. The stealing of his glasses show a disappearance of a symbol fo order and clear-sightedness.
