Napoleon also known as Napoleon Bonaparte, crowned himself emperor of France. He was the greatest military genius of his time. He created an empire that covered most of western Europe. Napoleon had great energy and ambition and that is what led him to be the great military general that he was. All of this did not come easy for him.
He got his first lucky break in Paris which then led to his promotion. With that promotion he became a military general which leads to his infamous military strategy. With this straggly he defeated many countries including Egypt. After his empire was almost complete he became emperor of France and by 1807 had conquered most of Europe. In 1795, Napoleon was in Paris when angry mobs tried to attack the ruling National Convention at the royal palace called the Tuileries. The mobs had been encouraged by royalists who hoped to destroy the convention before it could install a new government.
Napoleon defended the palace with firing cannons. This cannon fire, which became known as the whiff of grapeshot killed or wounded hundreds of people and quickly cleared the streets. Napoleon was hailed a hero and promoted to major general. It was because of this heroic act which led him to be one of the best military generals.
From 1792 to 1795, France had been at war with most of Europe. Napoleon was now in charge of the French army. Under his guidance Napoleon won the war and defeated four armies that were each bigger than his own. Napoleon had now developed a highly successful military strategy that was to form the foundation of his future.
He would start a battle while holding back as large a reserve as possible. He would then seek the weakest point in the enemy's lines and throw all his strength against that point at the right moment. Napoleon had a gift or an ability to see the best time to attack. Napoleon had defeated many countries by then and was known across Europe for being an excellent general. When he returned to Paris after defeating Austria he had high ambitions. He felt that he did not have enough influence to gain control of the government so he decided to strengthen up his army.
He proposed to his superiors about invading Egypt and they agreed. In Egypt he defeated the military rulers there and took over power. Another country, Turkey also wanted to invade Egypt and take it over but Napoleon also held them back. In less than a year he had conquered Egypt a very powerful middle-eastern country back then.
After defeating Egypt he thought that he had gained enough power to over take his superiors and rule France. Napoleon was not happy with just simply governing France, he wanted more. In 1802 the people of France approved an agreement saying that Napoleon was the ruler of France for life. In 1804 the French Senate voted him emperor. He was crowned at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. All this power he had gained was because of is extraordinary skills as a military general.
In 1805 Austria, Russia and Sweden had joined forces with Britain against France. That did not stop Napoleon. In 1806 he defeated Russia and in 1809 he defeated the Austrians in a small village outside of Vienna. After each victory, Napoleon enlarged his empire. He had conquered Italy, Germany, Holland and what is now Croatia. To each of his siblings he gave them a title and they would rule a certain area.
to his brother Joseph king of Naples, and his brother Louis king of Holland, his other brother Jerome king of Westphalia and his sister Grand Duchy of Warsaw. By this time his empire had stretched to most of western Europe except England. Even though he was greedy, he still shared the power amongst the family. He had worked very hard as a military general to get to where he was. In conclusion Napoleon was, I think one of the best military generals of his time, and it all started because of his bravery in Paris where his carrier began. But, it was his military instincts and strategy which got him ahead no one could ever figure out how to stop him.
So his empire grew defeating many countries with this new strategy of his. By 1807 he had conquered most of Europe and the rest they say is history as the legend of Napoleon Bonaparte will live on.
