With living on a farm, I had a lot of choice of what to do for my geography project, though nothing interested me quite as much as the factors the effect the rate of growth of a crop. Whilst looking around my farm one afternoon I noticed a field that had a few different coloured soils down the profile of it, I also noted that a crop had just recently been planted in it, it turned out to be a crop of maize. This was an ideal crop on which to base a project upon because each stage of growth can easily be seen because of the great height of the maize plant. With there being different coloured soils in the field I drew the assumption that there were different soil types within the field and that a comparison could be made with the rate of growth of the maize at each different soil type.
