Analyzing The Essay America is a country where everybody is supposed to be equal. Is this true in reality, however? For the most part no. There still are sex, gender, age and race distinctions between the people.
The situation is obviously better now than it has been in the 60 s of the last century, but there still are places where the distinction is just too noticeable. Sports is one of the areas where it is very important to fit into a certain category to be successful. Boxers, for example, are traditionally associated with black men. Tennis, in contrast, has historically been a white game.
Only in the recent times, there appeared people who proved by own example that neither the color of the skin nor gender matters in sports. American politics is another area that has traditionally been something that only White Anglo - Saxon Protestant (WASP) men participated in. When the forefathers wrote, all men were created equal, they, most probably, meant white men. Neither slaves nor women were considered to be equal.
The former could not get their freedom for a long time, and the latter did not have voting rights and the rights to be educated. The situation has changed very much since those times, and the world enjoyed Jennet Reno, Madeline Albright and many other prominent women and black people. Boys and girls are also usually viewed and treated differently by their families, schools and universities. There still exist sexist attitudes in America, when parents want to have a boy over a girl because they want to save a family name.
Girls are regarded as inferior and many people do not consider baby-girl as much of a blessing as a baby-boy. Boys are brought up in a more intellectually oriented manner. They are often trade as a family's hope, as someone who will bring the family a higher social and material status. This is particularly true in the families with the low level of income and immigrant families. Girls, on the other hand, are regarded as potential wives and are brought up in corresponding ways. Even though the situation is different than it has been 50 years ago, the girls still are literary trained to comfort men.
They are the ones who learn how to cook first, whereas most boys do not have much idea about cooking even when they grow up. Also, girls are taught how to take care of the children, house, clothes, furniture, etc. Many of those men who live alone hire ladies to do the housework for them. It is natural that there exist gender and race differences and each of those groups has different culture and way of doing things.
It is necessary, however, to view people as just being different. Nobody should be treated as inferior or superior, with assigned tasks or destinies for the life. To live in a really equal society, as the American one was proclaimed to be, as many trivial things, including sex, race, age and other characteristics that a person does not choose, should be illuminated.
