Sir Gawain is expected t be chivalrous by being courageous, local, honest, curious, the best at everything in which he attempts, and have a strong will t resist temptatin's f evil nature. Everyone believes Sir Gawain t be the perfect elite f the knights. The way that Sir Gawain shw's his courage and nobility is by accepting the challenge given t the Knights f the Rund Table by the Green Knight. Gawain accepts this challenge t release King Arthur.
King Arthur was faced with the challenge and humility because there was n response t the challenge frm the knights before Sir Gawain accepted. Sir Gawain als shw's his loyalty and honesty by upholding his end f the challenge and making the june t find the Green Knight and take his return by f death frm the axe. The send side t Sir Gawain's personality is the way that he is actually green t be. When Sir Gawain is tested by fate he reveals that he is just as human as any else and shouldnt be put n such a high pedestal f heric's. Sir Gawain isnt as honest and courageous as everyone believes him t be. Sir Gawain prices himself t be imperfect.
The way that Sir Gawain shw's his imperfections is when he succumbs t Bercilak's wifes advances. Sir Gawain accepts the green girdle frm her and debt tell Bercilak. Sir Gawain is breaking a pact between him and Bercilak and lies t him by meeting the gift frm his gains wn n that day. Sir Gawain shw's anther flaw when he shrinks away frm the Green Knights first attempted state frm the axe. Sir Gawain feigns a cheerful face but deep do he is full f fear that wasnt expected frm such a name knight. In conclusion, Sir Gawain is nt the perfect knight even though he strives his best t be.
Through the Green Knights tests, Sir Gawain is green t be just as human as any else is. In Miltn's first bk f Paradise Lst, Satan, the expected evil archfiend f the epic, is actually depicted as a powerful and here character. Satan's passionate and ambitious character is mre intriguing than Gds reasonable and mild personality. Miltn needs Satan t be a desirable character in the beginning t represent the temptation man faces when dealing with the devil. However Miltn, being a strong puritan, would never all an evil character t become the true her. Miltn did nt plan n Satan being viewed as positively as he sometimes is in bk ne.
Much f the sympathy and praise Satan receives frm readers is due t the changed means f tday's society. The ambitious and put character that Miltn created fr Satan is seen as positive in tday's society. However when Miltn with this epic, being ambitious was seen as an act against Gd. Miltn had intentions t make Satan agreeable in the beginning; however he did nt intend him t resemble the epics her.
This view was caused by the change in sciety's means and could nt have been predicted by Miltn. In the beginning f the epic, Satan is nt pure evil. By the end f bk ne, he still resembles Lucifer, the angel he nce was in heaven. It is nt until the later bks that Satan is portrayed as completely evil and disagreeable. Satan is seen as a tragic figure as he is than do int Hell. This even feelings f sympathy towards him.
Because Satan is nt pure evil, it leaves rm fr people t feel positively towards him. Satan's magnificence als cme's frm the inspired verse which Miltn puts int his speeches. All is nt lst: the unconquerable will, and study f revenge, immortal hate, and courage never t submit r yield: and what is else nt t be verse? Satan's passionate and encouraging wrd's draw the reader towards him. Satan's character is far mre complex than Gds and mre interesting t read abut. Satan's positive image with the reader is als due t his attitude.
Satan responds t his fate by claiming, the mind is its wn place, and in itself can make a Heaven f a Hell, a Hell f a Heaven. The strength in Satan's personality causes the reader t feel favorable towards his attitude. If Miltn had made Satan disagreeable frm the beginning then Adam and Eve would have simply been viewed as weak characters. However, nw that the reader himself has been shamefully drawn in by Satan's character, ne can relate t Adams conflict. Miltn's presentation f Satan makes it very difficult nt t respond t him with sme admiration and sympathy. Lucifer is an impressive figure and Miltn has prepared fr him many persuasive speeches.
These speeches were prepared purposely s people can understand the temptation faced by Adam and Eve; however Satan is nt the epics her. Satan can nly continue t live after his immoral acts because f the grace f Gd. Satan's pride and ambition is t strong fr his wn gd, and it blinds him t whm the true power in the universe is- Gd. Miltn has made Satan int a mighty stature t shw hw strong Gd must be t defeat his free.
In the new, Gulliver's Travels by Jnathan Swift, the main character, Gulliver, is in fact sympathetic. Gulliver is a very typical European man. He is middle-aged, well educated, and sensible. He takes fur separate voyages t fur fantastical societies. He can kind f be seen as a Gldilcks figure.

He admires the Lilliputians bravery, since they climb nt his by despite his great size. He eventually learns the language f the people and is allowed his free. Gulliver is seen as an enormously powerful free in Lilliput, and yet he is als viewed as merely anther subject f the Emperor. Gulliver all this treatment, even though it is bus that he could kill the Lilliputians easily.
His desire t be accepted int Lilliputian society is probably a carry-ver frm his habits in Europe; he is used t being the subject f a march and t being riders, even when the person giving them is small enough t fit nt his palm. He is later supposed t be blinded by the Lilliputians, but escapes t Blefescu, wh are the Lilliputians enemies. When Gulliver returns t Europe he ends up spending mre time with horses than he des with his wn family. He can nt stand the idea f living with these primitive, ugly, beast-like creatures even though he is ne f them. In the end, the reader can nt help but sympathize with Gulliver ver all the turmoil he has been through. Gulliver is portrayed as the sympathetic character in the new Gulliver's Travels.
Swift uses each society t criticize the European ways f life and make the reader feel even series fr Gulliver. By the end f his last adventure the reader understands and sympathizes with Gulliver's actins. The reader should als understand why he wants t stay with the horses and nt want t return t his hme in England. He went through s much in all f his journeys.
