The essence of dreaming The topic of usefulness or harmfulness of dreaming was always actively discussed by different people. The British essayist J. B Priestly once wrote: Now and again I have nightmares but not enough of them to make me lose my delight in dreams. One moment you are lying in bed thinking of something and then suddenly you are wandering into another existence... some people have told me they find dreaming an irritating habit, like yawning or sneezing.

I can't understand this. I regard my dream life as only a little less important than my waking life. There are many advantages that the dream world has over the waking one, though I suppose there are some disadvantages as well. Still, if dreams were for sale. I would buy as many as I could afford. Is he right or not?

In our life there are such questions, answers to which seem simple to us. And we think, that they are quite definite for us and dont pay much attention to them: why should you come back to things which became known to you already long time ago. But if you suddenly meet them in life, the concretized answer to these questions will be required from you. Then you understand that you do not know the answer to it! You have to look for the answer again because before there was no answer for you, there was only an illusion! Then searches may take a lot of time.

In the end if you search for too long time and cant find the answer you may suddenly meet a quite different one. Everything is illusion in our life! That is no such real and constant as we imagine: illusion of love, illusion of happiness, illusion of validity, illusion of searches, illusion of dream etc. What is a dream? What does it mean to dream? Does dreaming mean a search for any way-outs, a formulation of conclusions, or concrete ideas?

Or is dreaming a diffuse, obscured, silent, unostentatious, serene, non-mental process? Dreaming is a high emotional state, an euphoria. And what is euphoria? It is a state with full absence of concrete ideas, unwillingness to estimate or compare anything. And when you do not form concrete thoughts there is nothing left in your memory.

You remember only general features of the state you went through. Some people would argue that the person will never be creative if he doesnt dream. Creativity is the process of human activity creating qualitatively new material and spiritual values. I think that imagination and dreaming are still different things.

If to consider a nature of both processes it seems to be identical: in both of them there is a vision of the result or the situation that still cant be observed in reality. But the imagination has active and passive direction. Creativity is related to the first, and dream - to the second. I read about one interesting case, I cant but say that it is related to the extreme of dreaming. Once upon a time there lived one girl who was very closed, she did not have many friends, and in her world around it was very cold and lonely. There was only one refuge for her: her dreams.

They draw her happy, with them she felt that her love is necessary for people. Dreams became for her an empire where all the characters smile and do not know any troubles which may capture people in real life. You see, basically the girl was very kind and responsive person. As a result the most part of her life was devoted to lying on the sofa and dreaming: she came home from work, put herself in order and began to dream. Thus it is hard to call this process realized: having begun to dream once it was already hard for her to stop. She hardly aspired to it deliberately, with understanding of rationality and necessity of such dream for her benefit: it was simply pleasant for her and happened naturally.

There was also a second feature - monotony of an imagined situation. As a matter of fact all the process came to the playing the same picture. In other words, her life is represented by the closed labyrinth in which monotonously changing turns cause identical by its force surprise, distracting from the reality. Such dream can be called a trap in which the consciousness gets because of the fear to beat and be beaten in life. So to my mind, dreams can easily become the enemy of ones personality. Everybody must control his dreaming and give them the right direction.

Let it be imagination that can be useful for creation of beautiful masterpieces, rather than killing possession. If you can dream and not make dreams your master as for me, I like this utterance more than the abovementioned. Bibliography Prescott, Hanna G. Our inner world, New York, 2003 Black, Richard J.
