Stress Any of us time to time feels tense and is stressed out. It can be caused by different things and circumstances, like problems and misunderstandings with close people, life changes, poor health or serious illnesses, disagreements with the bosses at work or the absence of career opportunities, and many others. As a rule stresses bring negative feelings and pessimistic thoughts, and there are some definite situations, which are inevitably accompanied with stress: passing examinations or medical tests, visiting a dentist, having an important meeting at work, etc. Psychologists suppose that little or moderate stresses are not dangerous and frequently even desirable and useful for a person.

But at the same time, hard and long stresses may be very harmful for a person: they may grow into depression and even harder forms of psychological disorders, depending on how the person percepts the situation and how much he or she is sensitive to different life changes and anxiety, connected with such changes. It is very important to know, how to manage with stress, how to get diverted from a stressful situation and not to allow pessimistic mood capture you.

The most common way to calm down the anxiety and stress is to have talks with friends or close people, and discuss the problems which caused nervous tension. Also, some entertaining activities may help, like watching a movie or doing sports. There are many other ways, which are suggested by modern psychologists, like relaxation by meditation or yoga. Personally for me, the main source of my stressed condition is my education.

During all the years of studying in university I have been feeling pressed with hard lessons, exhausting studies and difficult examinations. I have never felt my stress and nervous tension to be something motivating or stimulating, and all I used to think is: I have to work hard and manage with my study as soon as possible. I used to take about 20 credits per semester, thats why sometimes I had to work till total exhaustion and over tiredness, and after that it was much more difficult to restore myself psychologically to continue my daily studies. I started feeling stressed since I had joined this university: initially because of separation with my school friends and family, but then the situation has been growing worse with the necessity of more intensive study, so sometimes I felt truly pressed and frustrated.

But, of course, I have my own little techniques, which always help me to distract my attention from thinking about lessons and university. I like nature very much and enjoy doing little walks around my place. I use some relaxing and distracting activities, like reading or watching TV. I have developed good and friendly relations with some of my class mates and feel more self-confident in surrounding environment of the university.

Besides, I found a lot of ways of emotional support for myself in coping with hard and stressful situations. First of all, I clearly understand my goals and expectations of what I can achieve. I specified my future way after I manage with the lessons, and it makes me feel much more comfortable. Also, though my studies appear to be really very hard for me, I always try to control my psychological and emotional condition and do not allow myself to go into deep depression. As I am graduating this year, now I feel extremely happy and optimistic. I am looking forward to go back home and see my family, to return to precious surrounding of my childhood.

I am very hopeful about opportunities which I will have by the graduation: I will find a job and will do my best to develop my career. And, certainly, the experience I have gained in university in managing with stresses and difficult situations is priceless. It will serve me for all of my life.
