Elder abuse Nowadays our slogans are make the way for youth, youth is our future and so on. It is nice and true. But because of our natural selfishness we forgot that we have not only future but the past where we were brought up by the elders. Many of us are just ashamed to recognize that they often simply forget about the existence of their old relatives, not to mention taking care of them. Recommendations The doctor who is treating old men should: - reveal old men in relation to whom cruel treatment and / or neglecting is possible, - professionally estimate and carry out the treatment of consequences of cruel treatment, - remain objective and unbiased, - try to establish and support therapeutic interaction with the family of such patient (often the doctor is the only professional supporting long contact with the family), - according to the status to inform on all the prospective cases of the severe and / or scornful treatment of old people, - Whenever possible to use the help of medical, social and psychiatric services, - with the purpose of reduction of intensity in families of high risk, in every possible way to promote increase of public support of the services providing the home-nursing help. According to Murray, A. Elder abuse, 2000, the solution of a problem of abusing concerning elder people has been concentrated on increase of knowledge and understanding of this phenomenon.
These efforts find wide reflection in mass media, taking into account serious abusing and cases of an inadmissible negligence. The mass-media play the extremely important role, making the people pay to this and stimulating corresponding measures in struggle against this evil.
