Leadership Women The time we live in is being commonly referred to as post-modernity. One of the most important characteristics of this era is the fact that the concept of gender identity, as such that implies immediate socio-political consequences, is being revised to a great extent. This results in situation when many women are now able to pursue careers that are traditionally being associated with males existential dominance, such as police officers, pilots, drivers and judges. There can be no doubt that modern liberal education plays a significant role in how the strength of gender stereotypes is being undermined. However, it is also important to understand that gender relations, as part of social reality, are subjected to the same laws that define physical reality in general. One of the most fundamental laws of nature states that the existence of law and order in universe is only possible for as long as opposing forces, which define the pace of cultural and scientific progress, are being in permanent state of counter-balancing each other.
In other words, the fact that modern women continue to gain more and more social prominence, corresponds to the fact that are men are slowly losing their existential vitality. Nowadays, it is not persons individual qualities that allow him or her to attain high social status, but its ability to adjust to political ideology of neo-Liberalism. Therefore, women who are being put in position of leadership, will not be are able to succeed, during the course of executing their professional duties, unless they know how to inspire respect in those who are supposed to follow their orders. The example of Hilary Clinton, who during her election campaign used to insist that that Presidents primary function consist of managing the bureaucracy, rather then leading the nation towards new goals, proves that it would be too early to suggest that the traditional idea of leadership has become obsolete. Whether we want it or nor, but it is the possession of masculine qualities of character, which qualifies potential leader for a job. Joan of Arc was able to liberate France from foreign invaders not because she knew how to practice participative leadership, or had the ability of operating with terms that have no actual meaning, such as empowerment, transition-decision making or consensus, but because, deep inside, she was more of a man then those men who surrounded her.
The same can be said about Margaret Thatcher, who practiced authoritarian style of leadership, despite being a fragile woman. This is the reason why it is only female leaders who knew how to act as men, who will go down in history, while the name of Hillary Clinton, for example, is going to be forgotten in the matter of a year or two. It is understood that the number of women in position of leadership is going to increase, as time goes by, and we can only cherish this fact, because it will result in our society becoming more egalitarian. However, it would be mistake to think that the essence of leadership will undergo a substantial transformation in the future.
It is also not quite appropriate to confuse leadership with management, because, as we have pointed out earlier, it is impossible for individual to become an effective leader, unless he or she possesses a personal charisma, which has rather inborn then educational properties. Leaders are not being appointed, but made. In order for woman to gain respect as leader, she will not only need to prove her equality to men, but to leave no doubt, in the mind of potential subordinates, that she is better then them, in professional sense of this word, which gives her an ultimate right to be put in charge. Nowadays, many men become feminized, which gives women an additional chance to finally begin affecting the course of history. However, it has nothing to do with establishment of politically correct utopia, where there will be no male chauvinism and sexism, but with the fact that men are becoming too soft, with their ability to make rational decisions being significantly reduced. Therefore, it will only be natural for women to capitalize on that.
It is not a secret that many male office workers now spend few hours a week to perfect manicure on their fingers and nobody consider such state of affairs as being slightly unusual. Women, on the other hand, are becoming increasingly mascunalized, which sets precondition for them to grow to be leaders in absolutely natural manner, without having to resort to Liberal terminology, in order to justify their rise to power.
