Stereotypes Introduction When one is given an assignment to write a rhetoric and stereotype essay on the four groups of people namely, the Politicians, the Tattooed persons, the Feminists and the Senior Citizens, it would give the opportunity to the writer to have the most rhetoric view points naturally of the Politicians because in general when compared to the other three groups these are the most double faced characters wherever they exist in the world. Especially in our modern times, politicians are renowned mostly for the wheeling and dealings they undertake in the pursuit of their personal interests, using the public which voted them into power just as a stepping commodity stone who together with their problems are put aside as irritants or best forgotten once they are in power. The other three groups irrespective of how stereotyped they may appear to us at the very least can be taken at their face values with whatever faults or strong points that they represent to the world. They in very much of contrast to the Politicians carry their real personas almost on their sleeves in the way they appear, behave, talk and even make their arguments as we can with specificity see with the Feminists. And importantly all these three groups are honest in their opinions unlike the Politicians who perhaps could only be trusted with ones mother-in-law provided that she too was such a pest that one would not mind throwing her to the dogs. We shall therefore, separately with rhetoric view points discuss each of the four groups as we see them with in a stereotype fashion also and start with the deservedly bashing up of the Politicians.
Politicians While democratic politics is a tool that provides opportunities to the elected politicians to perform the most creative activities to help humanity through the available resources of the public and the talent amongst them for the development of our societies, politics unfortunately has become an art form which is being spun on its head by our Politicians. While we continue to vote with regularity in the hope that miraculously some day we may elevate a person who would actually serve and mean well for the citizens. At the moment in general whenever the mention of Politicians comes up in conversations among every group of people, they are acknowledged with abhorrence and negativity. Most Americans if asked to opine about politics would probably respond with unspeakable as most citizens have become dispirited with the process that makes the United States a democratic showcase with distrust and suspicion about Politicians running at an all time high.
According to a former Mayor of one of the major cities in the west who also happens to be a political scientist, the officials who are elected the most are the opposite of what the public perceives them to be as hardworking and honest. The stereotype way in which Politicians are looked at is best reflected in the following example where a group of Silverton, Pretoria high school students were asked to opine about whenever they heard the word politics and some of them responded with the following answers, "It's just scandals and accusations, "Lies and manipulation, all they want is your vote, "Long speeches, rehearsed and unfeeling. It's not about you" and "It's old people's stuff. " While we can not fault Political Parties and without them it would not be possible to have elections besides the fact that they provide ordinary people the opportunity to get involved in politics and express themselves but it is when they become Politicians that they alienate themselves from the people they come from and represent. If by any chance people in the cess pool of Politicians one of them does with honesty perform his duties and serves the people meaningfully, he is looked upon as a freakish rarity. However, bitter differences between parties do exist and result in rhetoric filled parliamentarian debates with ugly arguments even prone to violence and ordinary citizens can only with further disdain steer of controversies where there should not be any. V) Tattooed Persons Most of the tattooed people that we would come across would without hesitation state that they are proud be tattooed and common slogans associated such as, the only difference between people with tattoos and people without is that tattooed people dont care if you are tattooed or not.
In their own way tattooed persons therefore try to imply that they are freer and somewhat better than the unmodified people of the world. However, tattooed person are looked upon in general as a stereotyped group of losers crying out for attention by tattooing and piercing their bodies to draw the attention of the world to them. When people are asked to opine about tattooed persons they relate to them as the stereotyped drug addict, criminal, gang-member and underachiever who in the real world are treated poorly and with disdain by those not tattooed and even looked at with some fear. Therefore tattooed people have difficulty in finding proper work even though they may be qualified for them and to some extents earn lesser wages than non-tattooed people.
The customer service they get is also poorer and tattooed person have difficulty in breaking through the stereotype image that is reflective of them and face prejudices where they are harassed and made fun of sometimes openly and sometimes behind their backs for the rest of their lives or as long as they do not remove the tattoos that visibly decorate their bodies. Not only is life made difficult for them, but the lifestyles of the children of tattooed persons are also affected as they would have difficulty in getting admissions in good schools and also be likely to be abused by teachers and parents of other children because of the appearance of tattooed person. They are also much likely to be sidelined from the mainstream social communities and therefore are most comfortable within their own personalized tattoo communities. However, it is often that in the hardships they choose by preferring to have their bodies tattooed at times lays down the strength to struggle harder and achieve their life goals more aggressively than ordinary people. Exceptions besides the stereotype way in which tattooed persons are looked do exist where we see many top level professional wrestlers, basketball players, tennis players and even actors and actresses performing their arts with excellence while at the same time exhibiting their tattoos to the millions of their admirers and fans. (Proud to be Tattooed) Feminists The general view with which feminists are looked at are as stereotypes who love to hate men and always find reasons to complain as to why they are not treated on equal terms with them. Furthermore, feminists are even considered to avoid wearing dresses and prefer wearing jeans as if to prove some kind of a point and to some extent even considered to have lesbian tendencies associated with them.
While we hear that men are violent, feminists as stereotype are also considered to be as aggressive and tend to think that woman are superior morally in comparison to men. In fact feminists are considered in general as stereotypes capable of easily frightening off men and even to some extents women who do not agree with the view points. While most of the above accusations associated with being might not be true, there may be some aspects of these accusations being present in them, but that would vary from person to person or in their particular case, from feminist to feminist depending on what issue they are up against. Overall the main goal of feminists remains to achieve equality between women and men for which they struggle in their own different ways. Senior Citizens A statement by Lillian Hawthorne, columnist for Finishing Touches best describes senior citizens by her quote which states just because we have snow in our hair or a chill in our bones, it doesn't mean that we have winter in our hearts!
This quote beautifully describes the desires, feelings and the capacities which exist in senior citizens to be as effective citizens as their younger counterparts and this statement in a way proves their desire to be as virile and lively a group of people as they once were in their youth. And when the subject of sex comes up, senior citizens correctly argue about it with the reasoning that the young didnt invent it, and the seniors havent abandoned it. This says everything that is to be said of senior citizens. However, realistically speaking senior citizens are negatively seen as stereotypes who are senile, dependent, diseased who need to be taken care of more and more as they grow ever older. In reality the young forget that with age also comes wisdom and astuteness which more than makes up for the aging process that claims slowly but steadily the memories, self confidence, thinking prowess, handwriting and sometimes even the will to live if the love and care that senior citizens deserve is not given to them. In contrast to the stereotypes of the other three groups of politicians, tattooed persons and feminists besides those of races etc, the stereotypes of aging senior citizens is relevant to all who are likely to live a normal span of life.
Therefore, the negative stereotyping of senior citizens that is existing in our societies have direct and a number of implications for all who are one day going to become old and senior citizens themselves. Therefore it is very important on the personal level of every individual young or old that the feelings of being unloving and unlovable never sets in our senior citizens because in the natural circle of life, these feeling would perhaps be passed on to us when we too grow old.
