Looking back on my life I see that I have made many mistakes. All due to my lack of patience and never listening to what my elders told me. If I had only listened to their words of wisdom and took into consideration what was told, I would have saved myself a lot of trouble. However I took my own path and did things my way, not following the guidance of my elders. I still remember what my grandparents told me like it was just yesterday. He told me Only fools rush in, What goes around comes around, and education is most important.
The first valuable lesson I learned was when cheating on the final test caused me a lot of trouble. It started at ninth grade when high school was a totally new thing. I began to have many new friends and they could drive. Going out was much more fun than staying home and studying. My grandfather warned me to stay more focused in school. I told him not to worry because I could always figure my way out. He also told me to work my way through anything that I wanted and Only fools rush in, but whatever he said seemed to go from one ear through the other.
I started to come to school late everyday. If I did come on time, I would slept in class. I missed a lot of homework and class activities. So, I was already behind the class before I even knew about it. I did not know what to do when the final was about to come. I was stuck in a bad situation, so I decide to take the short cut and cheat on the exam.
Too bad, I got caught and went through a lot of bad experiences with the teachers and school principal. I only get what Only fools rush in means as I was sitting in the principals office. It was a tough experience. It seemed like the lessons get tougher as I grow older. This is the time when my grandparents talked about what goes around, comes around. I started dating a lot around this age According to guys in high school, it is cool to have many girlfriends. You could say that I had a lot of girlfriends.
I did not care about their feeling most of the times; I would break their hearts, hurt their feeling. Until one day, I met a girl and fell in love with her but she did not have any feeling for me. I put myself in the same position that my ex-girlfriends were at. I got treated the same way I did to others before. What goes around really does comes around. Since I was a little boy, I was taught to value education.
My grandparents always used to tell me to take education seriously since they did not have a chance to do it in their generation. Well, sometimes I did lack on doing what they said but generally I followed school pretty well. I graduated from high school with honors. At first, I did not think much about how education could benefit me, I only went to school because I had to. After high school, behind the materialistic influence, many of my high school friends only blindly saw the little benefits from money. So most of them would go to work so that they can spend money as they like.
Keeping in mind what my elders said about the importance of education, I took the long run and went straight to college and did not stop studying since, instead of going to work to make money right away like a lot of other kids. I saw the goods from education from others who make good money, having good jobs. Again, the advices from the elders flashes back in my head. Well, as a teenager, I always thought that my grandparents talk too much, sometimes irritating. I did not really respect what they had to say. As I grew older, I also got wiser, and that is when I realize that the elders are really wise and fully experienced with life. Everything that they say are advices from years of life experience, and they only gave advices for my own good. However, the older I grow, the more I respect my grandparents and I think everybody should feel the same way toward their elders for the lessons they have been passing on to you..
