The brilliant person who spent their time sitting around and one day decided to pick up some of the tobacco they were growing and smoke it must have been out of their mind. This has lead to millions and millions of peoples addictions to, what is in my opinion one of the worst things in the world, cigarettes, or more specifically nicotine. Why anyone would decide to start up this insanely dirty and unhealthy habit is beyond me. Smoking is a problem that affects people of all ages and groups and looks just as stupid when anyone does it. This makes me think of the adds that show animals smoking trying to show that it looks ridiculous when people do it as well.

Smoking is a disgusting action that causes harm not only to the smoker but to all those around them as well as the air. My conviction on this matter could be caused by the two smokers that live in my home, and have lived in my home for the entirety of my life. My dad, who isnt really the stereotypical smoker that I would picture with the dirty fingers or anything, has smoked from a young age and despite countless efforts, is unable to quit. Even when his youngest daughter, myself, was diagnosed with severe asthma at a young age and found to be very allergic to cigarette smoke, he still was not able to rid himself of this disgusting ness that is present in all parts of his life.

Though it might not be noticeable to outsiders, if youve ever been nearer to a smoker than average, you would find a distinct smell of smoke and thats not something that could be found appealing. This is what causes my curiosity as to why anyone would ever WANT to be closer than average to a smoker, family member or not, because I certainly dont. Now, my uncle Frank on the other hand is a completely different story. If you were to see the man, you might understand, but I wouldnt wish that on anyone of you, so youre alright there. My uncle smokes one after another after another. If you are to catch him without a cigarette in his mouth, other than at dinner time, the sky is about to fall, I promise you.

Now as if thats not bad enough, he is quite the lazy one, so to actually find an ashtray to put the cigarette out it is a lot of work so, he uses the closest thing to the cigarettes to put them out with, his fingers. I dont know if this is possible for any of you to imagine without actually being able to see it, but let me try to describe. The tips of his fingers are yellow at all times and wont ever be rid of that color, but on top of that, if he hasnt washed his hands in a while they are black from all the ashes. Needless to say, Frank is not allowed to touch food in the house unless he plans to eat it. Now you have to understand Frank isnt the sharpest knife in the drawer so to speak. Actually, hes more like the spoon that got lost in the knife drawer, however I find this no excuse for his excessive cigarette smoking.

Now I dont want you to think Im done on the subject of Frank cause Im far from it. Frank not only smokes like a chimney, but he rolls his own cigarettes as he wanders throughout the house leaving his little trail of bread crumbs so that he has no trouble finding his way home into the smoke filled pit in which he lives. These arent really breadcrumbs of course, but tobacco ones. Now not only does he spill all over the house, he also manages to always have himself covered. That is just the hygienic part that we dont like about Frank. Now for the health issue, you are going to get a kick out of this one.

Have you ever heard a person who has smoked for 20 + years, like uncle frank, cough? Its not a pleasant sound and I dont think youd really want to hear it. The sound is a mix between a car starting up and someone who is missing a lung and coughing the other one up. It really is a horrible thing to hear. You can almost feel the pain in your own chest. Smoking causes lung cancer and that is not a pretty sight.

Think about the issue this way. If what happened to you on your insides, happened on the outside, would you still smoke? I would hope all of you who do smoke would say no when posed that question. I suppose that all smokers have reasons for what they do and I respect that. Nicotine is an addictive drug and users arent able to control the cravings for another dose of it. Tobacco companies try their hardest to get as many people attracted to the idea and smoking as possible so as to make themselves more money.

I am sure that the majority of smokers, like my father for example, would not want to smoke if they were not addicted. And I am also confident that people would be willing to try something that might make it easier to quit. Addictions however are strong and can often be hard to break and thats reasonable and has to be respected. In general I think that a big part of the whole issue for me is the hygiene part of it. No one wants to have to look at some old scruffy hobo walking down the street with only a few teeth, (and those few teeth they have are black), yellow fingers and the smell of tobacco smoke floating around them, well someone might I guess, but I certainly dont.

Worse still than that is the walking out of somewhere were people can openly smoke and smelling like smoke yourself. BLAH! I gag every time! I guess would just like it if cigarettes were just completely taken off the market cause that would save me lot of coughing and disgust, and that way people would have an easier time quitting if the products were unavailable.
