Athletes, whether they are young or old, pro or amateur, are always looking to gain an advantage over their opponent. Some may look towards an anabolic steroid, a powerful drug that many people take in order to boost athletic performance. But are these anabolic steroids safe for the human body? Many doctors think the answer to this question is no. The use of steroids in the MLB should be banned, as they are now. In the 1930 s, steroids were known to be used for homosexuals to lower there testosterone.
In the past few decades, steroids have been found mostly in college, the Olympics, and in professional sports. But today, steroids are being found in middle and high schools. Most commonly, steroids have been found in athletes involved in sports that rely on strength and size, like football, wrestling, or baseball, in endurance athletes where athletes are involved in track-and-field and swimming, in athletes involved in weight training or bodybuilding, and in anyone interested in building and defining muscles. Most major professional and amateur athletic organizations have banned steroids. Steroids have been known to help a person, but the drug has many side effects, from minor things to major health problems, like death. Many changes take place inside the body and may not be noticed until it is too late.
Some effects will go away when usage stops, but some may be permanent. Side effects for both sexes include high blood pressure, heart disease, liver damage, cancer, strokes, blood clots, urinary problems, headaches, vomiting, sleeping disorders, severe acne, and slight baldness. Effects for males include loss of testosterone, reduced sperm count, impotence, increase in nipple size, and enlarged prostate. Steroids act as a male hormone so females may experience male side effects.
These effects include reduced breast size, increase in facial and body hair, deepened voice, and menstrual problems. Users of the drug may also experience emotional effects. Hallucinations, paranoia, and depressions are the most common effects. Adolescents are in greater danger of taking steroids because the drug can cause early growth stop and the teen may become dependent on the drug. Besides health problems being a factor, the use of steroids involves cheating and unfair play in all professional sports. Steroids are most known in the MLB than in any other professional sport.
A player with a more natural advantage in baseball for example, will have a disadvantage against someone using steroids than if that person didnt use them. A player not using the drug will also be able to play the sport he desires more because he will be in better health than the player using steroids in the long run. Although using steroids may be the cool way to get buff and strong to the youth, it is not recommended. MLB players are getting suspensions and fines all across the league for being cause using these anabolic steroids. So if you want to be strong and healthy, work out daily and eat right.
