The antichrist is the chief opponent of Christ. The antichrist is expected to come at the end of the world to deceive and lead many followers of Christ astray. The first time that the term "antichrist" was applied was in John's epistles. This was the first time the term had been used, but not the first time in history that a reference had been made to the opponent of Christ.
