In the year 2081, America is a completely different place. Amendments were made to the Constitution of the United States that made it illegal to be different. Because of this Constitutional change, the idea that no one would have an advantage over someone else because of beauty, strength, intelligence, grace or anything else had become a reality. 1 Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. Making outstanding people average would be a problem today.
In the future, the government has ordered overachieving individuals to wear handicaps to make them average. 1 And to offset his good looks, the H-G men required that he wear at all times a rubber ball for a nose, keep his eyebrows shaved off, and cover his even white teeth with black caps at snuggle-tooth random. I can believe that some people in their society embraced the Constitutional changes that made this handicapping possible. His views were exactly the opposite of amendment 211, 212, and 213 of the Constitution. By escaping from prison, he was in the position of assembling others that had his beliefs.
