The novel Lord of The Flies written by William Golding, published in 1954, is a novel with a strong theme of how there is darkness in all of mankind. In the novel the boys realize, and demonstrate evil is all around them. Killing is a way that evil comes out in them. His mind was crowded with memories; memories of the knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing imposed their will upon it taken away it s life like a long satisfying drink. Jack was remembering his first kill. His inner evil is now taking control over him.
Jack is a symbolic figure of the dark side of mankind, evil. He helps bring the evil out in the boys with his cult like group of killing. His dark side now possesses him; he has a lust to kill. [Kill the pig! Cut his throat!
Kill the pig! Bash him in! ] Ralph to was fighting to get near, to get a handful of that brown vulnerable flesh. The desire to squeeze and hurt was over mastering. Ralph, who was solely interested on keeping the fire going to be rescued, now wants to participate in Jack s evil cult of killing.
Ralph was always the one to listen to the voice of reason (Piggy), but now the evil is silencing the voice. Not only has the dark side taken over Jack, but also now Jack is giving the evil disease to the other boys. Jack s cult wears the blood of the innocence (Pigs) to hid who they are, and turning then into savages He was safe from shame or self-consciousness behind the mask of his paint and could look at each of them in turn. Wearing their mask made it so no one knew who they were protecting them from blame, and guilt.
The mask is like a shield blocking out all emotions making it so they can do anything without remorse. The mask compelled them. He began to dance and his laughter became a bloodthirsty snarling. He capered towards Bill and the mask was a thing on it s own, behind which Jack hid liberated from shame and self-consciousness The masks bring the full evil out of the boys who wear them; the evil takes them over making them do things with out realization of what they are doing. When wearing the mask they can even take the life of one of their own, with out feeling guilty. Everyone who has a realization of the evil that is all around them, and coming out of them is either killed like Simon, and Piggy, or hunted down like Ralph.
Simon became in articulate in his effort to express mankind s essential illness. Simon was the Jesus figure he wanted to help, not harm. He could see what was going on and he wanted to help them control their evil. Simon is the good side of life, wanting to do well not evil, the boys didn t understand him, thinking he was different.
You knew, didn t you? I m a part of you? Close, close, close! I m the reason why it s no go! Why things are what they are! Simon realizes that there is evil all around them, and that it is in everyone.
Evil is the reason they never got rescued that day, because they were killing a pig, and let the fire go out. Soon after this realization Simon was killed. Simon found them when they were singing the chant for killing a pig, during their lust to kill nothing stopped them, not even Simon. In a moment the plat form was full of arguing, gesticulating shadows. To Ralph, seated, this seemed the breaking-up. Of sanity.
The assemblies that Ralph held used to be very ordered, people would only talk when holding the conch, but now people would speak out of turn. Ralph realizes that the boys evil side is coming out. The more evil that is demonstrated, the more chaos that goes on, and under prevails. Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man s heart, and the falling through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy.
Ralph after being rescued remembered how innocent the boys used to be until the evil came out in all of them. Then his friend Piggy, who was the voice o reason, who was tossed over that cliff like yesterdays garbage. Life is cruel and he now realizes it, and breaks down. While the boys were on the island they went through many changes, and came face to face with many different types of evil and fear. Most people go through their whole life and might experience half of what they went through. The novel makes you think about the innocence of children and how their life can be changed dramatically when evil takes the upper hand.
Children need protection from evil, and when you just let them go free the evil will almost always come out. He found him self under standing the wearisome ness of this life, where every path was an improvisation and a considerable part of ones feet The boys learned that life is uncertain and when you re spinning look at something still or you will get dizzy and fall down, mainly letting the evil come out and play.
