Should the Ten Commandments be posted in public schools? October 1 st, 1997 -A 16 -year-old in Pearl Mississippi is accused of going to Pearl High School and shooting nine students. Two die. Dec 1 st, 1997 -Three students are killed and five injured as a 14 -year-old opens fire at s prayer circle in the hallway at Heat High School, West Paducah Kentucky. March 24 th 1998 -Four students and a teacher shot to death during a false fire alarm at Westside Middle School in Jonesboro Arkansas. April 20 th, 1999 - 15 people die in the largest school shooting ever students Eric Harris Dylan Klebold shoot fellow students and themselves.

With all these catastrophes occurring our confused nation questions why are these terrible things occurring? Yet while these questions are being pondered the law forbids a public school to hang the Ten Commandments? Schools should be allowed to post the Ten Commandments. Not only would these terrible crimes be decreased, but also morality could be brought into our Nation once again.

One reason the Ten Commandments should be posted is that the government has never passed a law implementing a separation of Church and State. Amendment 1 in the Bill of Rights states the following: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof This Amendment does not even suggest the Separation of Church and State. The phrase, Establishment of Religion, means that Congress could not set one Christian religion above another or establish a national church like the Emperors and Kings had done throughout the years. The two phrases, Establishment of Religion, and Separation of Church and State, are not comparable or compatible. They are two totally different ideas. Also when any individual even fathoms the concept of separation of Church and State does this idea even exist?

Most of our forefathers were Well-read, intelligent, Christian men: If they had wanted to say Separation of Church and State they would have, because the notion was not a new one (Fallwell). When one actually thinks about it they will see that this country and constitution were not based on Freedom from religion but freedom of religion. Our very constitution is based on Christianity. The Constitution of the United States, for instance, is a marvelous document for self-government by Christian people. But, the minute you turn it into the hands of Non-Christian and atheistic people they can use and destroy the very foundation of our society, comments Religious expert. Robertson (Separation of Church and State).

Separation of Church and State has long been the cry of civil libertarians wishing to purge our glorious Christian heritage from our nations history. Of course, the term never once appears in our Constitution and is a modern fabrication of discrimination adds Fallwell. All in all once one actually looks past all the things said abut Separation of Church and State they will easily see that it was never mentioned by any of our Founding Fathers and does not even exist. It is a lie of the left and we are not going to take it anymore, concludes Robertson (Gay). Another reason the Ten Commandments should be posted in public schools is that the Ten Commandments are the foundations upon which are based Americas laws and government.

There must be a moral compass to guide the Nation and for two-hundred years, the Ten Commandments have served as that guide, comments Barton (Rose). When one actually contemplates it the Ten Commandments are the structure of the laws our country abides by. Thou shall not kill, Thou shall not steal: These are found commonly in our constitution as well as the laws of many other nations. Yet with such laws that are agreed upon by any upstanding citizen why is it that we cannot post them in the very center of where some of these terrible crimes are being committed? Representative Bob Barr states that, If the Ten Commandments had been posted in Columbine High School the shootings would have never happened (Williams, T). While many would disagree with that statement many agree with him by saying that in them you will find The foundation of all law as well as all morality (Duhaime).

Because the Ten Commandments are such a vital part of our nations history there should be no law forbidding their display in Public Schools. The final reason the Ten Commandments should be posted in Public Schools in to restore and establishment of morals. Now just think, What type of people would oppose a law, which saves students lives? Comments Williams. It is true that while the Ten Commandments are just and moral laws to abide by they are still banned from being posted in public schools. Simply posting the Ten Commandments will not instantly change the moral character of our nation.

However, it is an important step to promote morality, and an end to children killing children commented Louisiana State representative Robert Alderholt (Williams, T). The truth of the matter is that these killings are not going to stop until we start to constitute morality back into the country and a great start would be by posting the Ten Commandments in public schools. Until this country does take these seriously and see that the problem in the system is a extreme lack of morals in this country. Posting the Ten Commandments in public schools will be a great way to begin addressing this problem.

With all the advantages and lack of disadvantages anyone should see that there should be no reason to prohibit the displaying of the Ten Commandments in public schools.
