Romeo and Juliet Essay The person responsible for the tragedy in Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, is Tybalt. Tybalt is the violent cousin of Juliet that is to blame for the deaths of the two lovers. Tybalt s short temper and violent attitude makes him to blame for the chain of events, which lead to Romeo and Juliet s death. He challenges Romeo to a duel, kills Mercutio, makes Romeo banished, makes Juliet be forced into marriage with Paris, and the result is tragic. When Tybalt finds out that Romeo is at the Capulet s ball he gets very angry and would have started yet another fight right there and then if Lord Capulet, who is Juliet s father did not insist that Tybalt endure Romeo and not make a scene in front of his guests. Capulet s scolding did not budge Tybalt s coarse, he sent a challenge to a duel to Romeo.

Married to Juliet, Romeo would not fight and Tybalt continues to carry out the fight even without Romeo. Mercutio, who is Romeo s best friend sees this and will not stand for it, when he tries to stop Tybalt he was slain himself. Mercutio s death ignites Romeo s anger and sent into a rage he seeks revenge on Tybalt. Romeo was desperate for either himself or Tybalt to go with Mercutio in death and successfully slays Tybalt. This results in banishment for Romeo that tears him apart from his beloved Juliet and makes it much harder, even more so than it was before for the two lovers to keep their love for each other strong. If Romeo had not been banished the problem of the letter not getting to Romeo would not have been a problem at all Lord Capulet, seeing Juliet s grief that he thought was from her loss of Tybalt, seeks to replace her tears with joy by being wed to Paris.

Capulet refuses to take no for an answer and insists that Juliet marry him as soon as possible and if she will not he will disown her and leave her to the streets. Capulet s action causes Juliet s desperation that makes her go to Friar Lawrence, who gives her to make her seem dead to everyone so Romeo could come and get her and the two could run away to Mantua together. Juliet s taking of the potion resulted in Romeo taking his own life to be with her. Tybalt is the one to blame. He killed Mercutio, which led to Romeo s being banished and Juliet s having to marry Paris, the man whom she did not love. If these events had not happened, Romeo would have known of Juliet s plan and would not have taken his own life.

If Tybalt had only accepted Romeo s offering of peace, the tragedy may have actually not been a tragedy at all, it may have actually been a happy ending.
