The streets are quiet with the exception of frogs in the woods nearby. The drums of the Offspring are now playing. Suddenly, Im flying through the frosty air, I swerve, gain speed, bend my knees, and kick up and outwards. Appropriately, the song Falling plays as I drop, landing on my foot sideways as my leg remains strait up and down.
I crash and hear two internal cracks, one of which is very loud (my fibula), and the second is more since (my title). Next, I land sharply on the middle of my spine. After laying sprawled flat on my vertebrae, I get up and stand up on the better foot to receive my skateboard. Now, hopping down the street on one foot, the pain begins to sink in. Finally, I find my skateboard, sit on it, and realize Im an eternity away from my front door. Elevating my foot, I feel a slight panic overcoming my thoughts.
Alone, afraid, in pain, completely deserted. Nobody hears my cries at this late, dark hour. Working my way up to my house, a few tears run down my cold cheeks, and I keep hoping for someone to hear me. Street lights are my only company, until I hear tennis shoes about 20 feet away. I continue to cry, waiting for this womans help.
She looks strait at me, then my skateboard, and despite my pain filled tears, she changes her direction and walks away. Feelings of anger and hate now arise. My friend, David and brother, Nick are in the house, playing guitars, so they wouldnt hear me if I were in the same room, even five feet away. Feeling betrayed and full of anger, I start to become dizzy and wonder just how my night will end. Despite the pain, I still work my way up to the house. Surprised Ive already made it back to the curb, and managed to get on the sidewalk.
Darkness surrounds me, until my front door opens. David steps out, like a knight in shining armor. By this time, ten treacherous minutes have gone by. Suddenly I feel a great deal of relief, sigh, and even laugh at myself a little as David calmly carries me along the stretched, curvy sidewalk leading to my house. He stops to perform a couple dance steps on the way.
Inside, warm, safe, tons of attention, and the E. R. on its way.
