In the movie, Lord of the Flies, 25 English school children were aboard a plane when it crashed on a deserted island, miles away from civilization. The pilot died, forcing the children to survive all on their own. They started using survival tactics, hunting for food, lighting fires to signal any passing airplanes and gathering together to discuss each persons role. Jack and Ralph were the two main characters. Attempting to establish a democracy, they elected Ralph as the leader. Ralph was trying to keep everyone together, keep the children calm, which was working untill the group starting to split.
A boy named Jack disobeyed all the rules, and forced everyone to rebel against Ralph. The group started separating, good vs. evil. Jack and his followers turned wild, killing everything that got in their way, soon there was rivalries between the two groups. Ralph and Piggy (the one boy that remained with Ralph throughout the movie), kept their heads straight. Their main worry was getting off the island.
They were the ones who kept the fire lit, and tried to signal passing ships, while Jack and his group, were turning into beasts, killing not only animals, but also some children. One boy thought he saw a beast while hunting for food, he ran back and immediate told Jack. They soon became obsessed with finding this beast. Days later's, at one of their nightly rituals, they brutally stoned a boy to death, claiming they thought it was the beast. They were living in total chaos and disorder.
Eventually, they killed Piggy and attempted to kill Ralph. At the end of the movie, they were living in complete anarchy, with no rules and no ruler. An absence of government can lead to violence, disorder, and even murder. This movie gave an excellent example of what can happen if we were to live under anarchy. In everyones life, the struggle for power exists in all situations. The decision between good and evil is a choice that everyone has.
The movie showed the struggles man goes through, and how important a government really is. An absence of government will only destroy man, he will become violent and the struggle to survive. Anarchy will eventually kill man.
