Many people wonder why the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy is still questionable. For those who have not closed the books on this mystery, there are many reasons why. Those who were alive on November 22, 1963 still remember exactly where they were and what they were doing. It seems as if the whole country froze the day the President was assassinated, and this is why people still talk about it, and will continue to do so. There are many questions that have yet to be answered, files that have not been opened, and supposed lies that have been made.

Some believe that the government is hiding information from the American people. I became interested in the assassination of John F. Kennedy after watching the Oliver Stone film JFK. It is true that some of the material in the movie is controversial, but a lot of the information is based on real reports. New government documents have also been released that reveal more information that was not known thirty years ago. The following information supports my belief that the death of President John F.

Kennedy was not the result of a lone gunman, but the result of a conspiracy. The Warren Commission consisted of seven men chosen to investigate the assassination of JFK. They concluded that the shots were fired by Lee Harvey Oswald from the 6 th floor window of the Texas School Book Depository in Dallas. (Grunwald, 34) Some say that the purpose of the Warren Commission was for damage control on the United States International Image. In the Commission, Howard Brennan, a witness to the assassination said that he saw Oswald firing a rifle from the Book Depository. He concluded that Oswald was standing in the window and was able to estimate his height and weight from that. However, Brennan failed to pick Oswald out of a lineup at Police Headquarters and was only able to identify his corpse as being the man he saw in the window.

Also, the window was raised less than halfway, meaning the shooter would have had to kneel to make the shots. Howard Brennan has been discredited as being any kind of a reliable witness. (Duffy, p 89) In 1976, the House of Representatives established a Select Committee on Assassinations. On July 17, 1979, they came out with a report that agreed with the Warren Commissions claim that Oswald fired the shot into Jfk's head. They did disagree that he acted alone. They concluded that two gunmen fired shots, therefore saying that they believed that JFK was assassinated as the result of a conspiracy. The Warren Commission was made for the purpose of hiding the real facts about the assassination rather than uncovering the truth that it promised to reveal to the American people. (Livingstone, pg. 49) There is a fog over the evidence, something only a military or civilian intelligence can do. (Livingstone, pg. 177) An important part to the conspiracy theory is the Magic Bullet, or Single Bullet Theory.

The Warren Commission concluded that one single bullet made wounds in both John F. Kennedy and John Connally. This would mean that the bullet hit the President in the back, exited through the throat, passed through Connally's body, breaking a rib, then shattered bone in his wrist, and finally entered his left thigh. (Stahl, part III, A) The bullet was then found on his stretcher, with no traces of blood and being only slightly deformed. The bullet could not have caused all these wounds and it is not possible for a bullet to come out only slightly deformed. Tests were completed regarding this, which concluded that, It is impossible for a bullet to strike a bone, even at low velocity and still come out with a perfectly normal tip. (Stahl, part III, A) Rejecting this single bullet theory would mean that more than three bullets had to be fired, and Lee Harvey Oswald could not possibly have gotten off more than three rounds in the specified time. (Stahl, part III, A) There are also many discrepancies to the autopsy of John F. Kennedy.

The original autopsy was burned by J. J. Humes, and he was the only autopsist to have claimed to see a bullet wound in the rear of Jfk's head. (Stahl, part III, B) The reason for this is unclear, but one can speculate that he was either ordered to do it by a higher power, or he chose to burn them himself because he was the only one who contradicted what the other autopsist's saw. The official version of Jfk's autopsy concluded that there were two wounds: a) one at the base of the neck, and b) one at the rear of the head, the fatal shot that caused the head to jerk backward. (Stahl, part III, B) The wound at the base of the neck is from the magic bullet. There is also a more critical analysis of the autopsy. This concluded that, There were actually three wounds in the President: a) a throat wound, b) a back wound (not at the base of the neck), and c) a wound to the front of the head, with an exit in the back of the head.

The two other wounds in Connally were caused by different bullets. (Stahl, part III, B) This would mean that at least five different shots had hit their targets and one other bullet has been said to have sprayed bits of pavement on a bystander. A new team was made to investigate this part of the assassination and concluded, There is a 95 % probability that a fourth shot was fired from the grassy knoll. (Livingstone, p 260) New information that has been found reveals that, The throat wound on John F. Kennedy was probed. (Stahl, part III, B) This proves that the autopsy doctors were lying when they said they werent aware of the throat wound. The back wound was also lower than the throat wound, which destroys the single-bullet theory. Another forensic pathologist concluded that the head wound was actually four inches lower than previously recorded. (Stahl, part IV, B) If Oswald was the lone gunman, Jfk's head had to have been tilted down and this is not evident in either of the videos of the killing. New reports have also surfaced from witnesses who have seen autopsy reports that showed a wound in the back of the head. (Posner, 49) This tells us that there are in fact two sets of autopsies, one that shows wound in the back of the head and one that doesnt.

Doctors must have tampered with a set of the autopsies in order to follow the lone gunman theory. There is no way of knowing this because the government would never admit it. They knew that the wound in the back of the head would challenge this theory and something had to be done about it, so they changed the autopsy reports to make it look like there werent as many wounds and that a single bullet in fact killed the President. The reasons for the governments actions may never be known, but we can speculate that they chose to tamper with evidence in order to prevent problems after the assassination.

If it was a conspiracy and the people learned that the government was trying to cover it up, its possible that our government would not be what it is today. With all of this information above, it still leaves people questioning who did kill JFK. There are several groups with possible motives. The Mafia is a possibility mainly due to perceived JFK betrayal.

The CIA has always been suspected of having a part in the assassination. Before his death, JFK threatened to break the CIA into 1000 pieces. (Stahl, part VI, A) He also threatened to pull out of Vietnam, which would anger the CIA and American people who favored the war. Cuban exiles have also been suspected of having a part in the assassination because JFK removed air cover in the Bay of Pigs, allowing exiles to die on the beach, and others thrown in Fidel Castro's jails. (Stahl, part VI, B) Oil companies are suspected because JFK proposed the repeal of the Oil Depletion Tax Allowance. Right Wing Extremists could also have played a part because JFK sent Federal Troops to force unity in the south. JFK also threatened the economic power of banking and finance companies. Anti-conspiracy readers would say that there are so many different possibilities, but there is a connection between each one.

The CIA had used anti-Castro Cuban exiles as agents in Miami for Operation Mongoose. The CIA also recruited the Mafia for its Rifle assassination program. The oil companies worked together and enlisted CIA help when they needed it, and many oil companies and banks usually worked together. Some of the most prominent in the Oil Industry also supported right wing ideas and beliefs. (Stahl, part VI, B) Some people believe that Lee Harvey Oswald was connected to the CIA. Recently released government documents justify this claim. We now know that United States intelligence was in fact monitoring Oswald's actions even before the assassination, however, immediately after the assassination, they made a huge attempt to cover-up the fact that they knew nothing of him.

The American people were led to believe this false information for so many years. Reading this paper, one would think that this information may be true, but it can all be rebutted. Yes, there are different sides to every story, but there is too much evidence telling us that there was more than that one person involved in the assassination. It is up to you to choose whatever you think, but no matter which side you choose, you must understand that the government has already been caught in lies. If Oswald did kill Kennedy by himself, why are there so many cover-ups and so many contradictions? We probably will never know the real story of the Kennedy assassination, because if the government were involved in the conspiracy, they would never admit what they have done wrong.
