When the great nation was founded, George Washington warned the other forefathers about the effects of forming alliances and international relations. This was one of many warnings that Washington had foreseen as the problem of the old world nations. The presence of too many international relationships has caused financial, military, and social problems within the United States. The United States is often viewed as a totalitarian government, which at its own will interfere with other nations business. In the long run, this will only cause tension between the nations and instability within its own borders.

Isolationism would ensure that the American citizen s well being is at the top of government s priorities by stabilizing the nation s economy, rebuilding its military, and solving its social problems. People, too often, believe that money makes the world go round because everyone seems to want more of it. Financial reasons are why the United States was founded. It started when the colonies refused to pay taxes the British government placed on them.

As the world prepares for whatever lies with the next millennium, many prepare for the recession, which has already taken a huge toll on the economy. The United States treasury cannot keep squandering resources to aid foreign nations when so many of its own people are in fear of losing their jobs. Furthermore, the national debt is still lingering, waiting patiently to be paid off. Instead of wastefully sending money to foreign nations to stabilize their economies, the United States should first stabilize its own. Close foreign relations require that the United States assist other nations when, in fact, it is in need of help itself. Contrary to what the politicians say, the United States is slowly following the path to doom, the same path the Romans followed.

Immorality, crime, and poor leadership led the mighty Roman Empire to its downfall. It wasn t a great army or a plague, but a slow decay within the nation. Like the Roman Empire, the United States is slowly rotting away from the inside out. Many of the flaws of the Romans are present in the United States today. Negligence of the government on its own people has increased poverty, hunger, and homelessness, and yet the government sends resources, which could be used to rebuild a dying nation, to foreign nations so they can live better.

This country is strong because of the cultural diversity among its people, but keep in mind that everyone is from another nation and many have sentimental feelings for their motherland. If England and France were to go to war, how could the United States choose a side when it could cause internal struggles? During a period of isolationism, the United States could be given an opportunity to establish its identity in a secure nation. If the United States mainland were to be attacked today, the east coast would fall within a week. Why would the United States be so vulnerable? With no peacetime draft and a three-fourth of its military power scattered around the world protecting nations like Saudi Arabia, Korea, Japan, and many others, the response time to gather all the military strengths together would be far too great.

Military assistance from the United States seems to backfire. For instance, Iran was an ally of the United States until the 1970 s when the United States decided to give military assistance to the president of that country, and overnight, Iran changed from friend to foe. A similar situation occurred in Cuba, where the United States supported Fidel Castro's guerillas to come into power. Military presence in other nations has only caused more hatred and resentment towards the United States. Trade is important to our economy for two reasons. The first reason is because of the exchange of ideas and the second, because it opens up a whole new market.

It is also great to have an ally during a war and to have close diplomatic ties with other nations. Trade and alliance sound good, but it is only an illusion the government wants the people to believe. Currently the balance of trade with most nations and the United States is unbalanced because the United States imports more than it exports. The unbalanced trade means that Americans aren t buying products that their fellow countrymen have made.

What is the point of trade when the United States is losing money? New markets end in the same result. When the United States trades with other nations, they don t gain new technology. There is a saying that goes the Americans invent it, the Germans perfect it, and the Japanese mass produce it. Most technology is developed in the United States, but it is sold to other nations and back to the United States. With the most advanced technology in the world, the best-trained army in the world, and the only standing super power in the world, what country would dare challenge the United States?

Besides, diplomatic ties with other nations have only caused more violence and terrorist attacks on the U. S. From the mistakes that have been made in the past, it is clear that foreign affairs have resulted in pain and suffering for all. By choosing to be isolationist, the United States can regain the dignity and respect it once had. With a stable economy it will be able to assist the needed on its own land. Although foreign ties appear advantageous, it is nothing but fabricated crud the government wants its people to know.

In reality, being an isolated nation has greater benefits for the nation. Since offering assistance to countries that show no gratitude for the aid they receive, why bother?
