Home sweet home Home is where the heart is, is a saying so overused that it has become a clich. However, this simple statement tells us where towing the true treasures of life. These treasures cannot be bought with any amount of money yet is available to even the most impoverished person. Home isa place for comfort, love, and help in times of need. The thought of returning home provides us with a wellspring of hope and strength. We draw upon this hope get us through some of our most difficult times in life.

An interesting observation within my life is that the further I am away from home the more Iron to be back. A theme within the Parable of the Prodigal Son is returning home. Often times we blindly believe that there are better comforts apart from our home. However, in the end, we realize that true comfort and love can only found where our heart belongs, our home.

The younger son in the parable learned this invaluable lesson through the turmoils he faced when he left his home. He realized that returning home involved more than returning to the place grew up as a child. Returning home in the parable contains two aspects which are a need for forgiveness and willingness to forgive. Before a need for forgiveness can be established a crime must be committed. In the parable the son disrespects his father and breaks his heart. He decides that he can find better comforts away from home.

He takes his half of the inheritance and squanders it on drinking and partying. Once histone is gone so are his friends and his women. Penniless and starving he seeks job feeding pigs. When he came to himself (Luke 15: 17) he sees that thesis are better fed than he is so he begins to dream of returning home. He exclaims, How many hired servants of my father s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! (Luke 15: 17).

He admits to himself that he has sinned against heaven, and before [his father]. He decides that he will return to his father and work as a servant. Apart from his pride he realizes that he needs to seek forgiveness from his father before he can return home. The son realizes he needs forgiveness, but before he can receive it he needs someone willing to forgive him. In search of forgiveness helmut seek out the person he has sinned or committed the crime against. The only person that can forgive him is the person he did wrong to.

Since he committed active against his father he seeks forgiveness from his father. As he dwells on hissing he is paranoid that his father will not receive him and cast him out. Heroes not realize that the father is eagerly awaiting his return. All the younger son can think about as he is returning home is the punishment that hill receive. However, he is surprised by the reaction that his father gives him. And he arose and came to his father.

But when he was a great way off, his father some him and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him (Luke 15: 20) Instead of a beating he receives a kiss, instead of anger he finds compassion. Upon returning home heis showered with love and comfort. Without the feeling of discomfort and hardship that the son faced outside of home, the son cannot come to the realization that home is the only place to feel true love and comfort. In contrast to his thoughts of retribution the father pronounces to his servants, Bring forth the best robe and put in him; and put a ring on his hand and shoes his feet: and bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: (Luke 15: 22 - 23). The son begins his journey seeking forgiveness but is surprised to find out that forgiveness has been seeking him. However, before the son can truly return home he needs to forgive himself.

The condition for forgiveness is that when someone is forgiven the old self, which committed the crime, dies; For this my son was dead, andis alive again; he was lost and is found. (Luke 15: 24). The son needs forgiveness from his father because he sinned against the father, this is theirs step. However, before he can be alive again he needs to separate from hippest dwellings. The final step to separate from his old self is to forgive himself so that the old self dies. Inthe parable returning home requires more than physical placement. Rather, it requires the acknowledgment of past misdeeds and an opportunity for a second chance.

The prodigal son s view of returning home is simply returning to the place of his childhood. However, the parable imply's that returning home involves two conditions; a need for forgiveness and willingness to forgive. When the son returns home he finds comfort and a loving father willing to forgive him and help him in his time of deprivation.
