Go Ask Alice Imagine you are a young teen in high school. Your best friend is your diary, and your dream in life is to make some real friends and go on a date with the most popular guy in school. Go Ask Alice starts out just like that description. Alice never really had friends and was thought of as an outcast. One day Alice began to try and make some friends by talking to a girl from her school named Jill. Jill was popular, but was looking to meet some new friends.

Suddenly, Alice was calling Jill every night. The two quickly became friends, and about a week later Jill had Alice and a few of her other friends over to her house. This was when Alice was first introduced to drugs. Jill passed out Pepsi? s to everyone and some of the Pepsi? s had drugs in them.

Alice got one with drugs in it, but she didn? t know. The whole room started spinning around her and she loved the feeling. At another drug party that her new friend Bill had, she met a girl named Chris, who worked at the local coffee shop. Chris and Alice became best friends.

Chris introduced Alice to her boyfriend, Ted, and his best friend, Richie. They were both in college and invited Alice and Chris over to their dorm. Alice really liked Richie and Richie told Alice he really liked her. Richie told Alice that he would only be her boyfriend if she would help him sell drugs to kids in her school. She agreed, and began pushing for him everyday.

Her reputation in school went from being a semi-normal kid to a drug dealer. She really thought she was in love with Richie. One day she went to his house with Chris to surprise Ted and Richie. When they opened the door they saw both of their boyfriends kissing each other. Alice slammed the door shut and they ran to Chris? car and drove away.

Chris and Alice were sitting in a park ashamed of what they had done and they came to realize that they couldn? t escape their bad reputations unless they ran away to San Francisco where nobody knew them. Alice got a job at the coffee shop with Chris. Their plan was to make enough money to go to San Francisco, buy an apartment, and begin applying for jobs there.

In about three months they were ready to act on their plan. They took a bus to Utah, and then got a bus ride to San Francisco. When they finally got there, they looked for and found an apartment that had cheap rent. They went upstairs to their room and dropped their stuff on the floor.

The next day Chris got a job at a clothes store. She had a really nice boss named, Sheila. Alice got a job about a week later at a gift shop in a hotel. Her boss was really nice also, and took her under his wing. Chris really started to become friends with her boss and actually got invited to stay at her house.

She asked if it would be okay to bring Alice and her boss said sure. When they got to the house they were stunned by how big it was. Chris and Alice decided that when they got enough money they would start a business and become rich like Sheila. The next night Sheila had a party. A whole bunch of rich people came dressed in suits and gowns.

They began pulling out various drugs and using them. One offered Alice and Chris heroin and they tried it just so they wouldn? t make a scene. Their experience with heroin was much different than any other drugs they had done. They found they had no control over their own safety.

When they came down from their high, Chris and Alice immediately ran away from the house and went back to their apartment. Since they didn? t want to be dependent on people they couldn? t trust, they decided to start their own business right away.

The next day, they went out searching for a new place to set up shop and live. They found the best street level apartment in Berkeley and it even had a big display window. They moved in and instantly began working on the place. They bought different colors of paint and finished the place in a day.

They opened the shop a few days later after Chris got things to start selling from a wholesale store. A few kids that were interested in the items for sale started coming in to buy little things in the store. Most of the kids, unfortunately, just sat on the chairs all day and talked with friends because it was better than being at their own houses. Alice got really depressed that her plans weren? t working well, so she decided that she should go home. She called her parents and they were so happy to be talking to her.

They told her they would wire her money to fly home, but Alice said she had enough. Alice and Chris packed up the next day and got on the plane home. When they got to the airport Chris? s and Alice? s families were both waiting at the terminal.

They were reunited with a shower of hugs and tears. After all the craziness was over, Chris and Alice went home to their own houses to sleep in their own beds. Within a short time of being home, Alice and Chris got involved with buying and selling drugs. They eventually were caught by the police and were put on probation and sent to drug counselors. Chris and Alice weren? t allowed to see each other anymore and Alice was grounded for two months.

One night after using drugs she got in school, Alice walked out of the house and hitchhiked all the way to Denver. Alice met a couple of kids in Denver who were into using drugs and they all decided to go up to Oregon. Alice had no house in Oregon, so she was forced to sleep in the park. After about a month of living on the streets, Alice went home again. When Alice went back to school this time, she told all her friends that she was through with doing drugs because they were ruining her life. This really angered one of her old friends, Jan.

Jan swore she would get Alice back into using or else she would try and ruin her life. To make it worse, both of Alice? s grandparents recently died from a heart attack and stress. Alice really loved her grandparents and was very close to them. Alice met a boy at the library named, Joel. This is the first good thing to happen in her life for a while.

She really likes Joel because he is a good kid and a hard working student. There is just one problem with Joel, he is a freshman in college and Alice is only in 10 th grade. They became really good friends and her parents really like Joel too. Terrible rumors were spread around school by Jan and her friends and Alice feels like packing up and moving away, but doesn? t want to put her family through that again. One night, Alice was offered a baby-sitting job at her neighbor?

s house. She was sitting down to dinner with the two year old child when she started feeling funny. The next thing she knew she was in a hospital bed with bandages on her hands and arms. A nurse walked in and realized Alice was awake.

Alice asked the nurse what had happened and the nurse told her the whole story. Somebody drugged her food with an excessive amount of acid and after Alice ate it she locked herself in the closet and couldn? t get out. She banged on the door until she lost most of the flesh on her hand. She also scratched her face up badly and pulled out most of her hair. She was in a very bad position.

After recovering from her injuries, Alice was sent to a mental institution. She was forced to stay there a month and when she got out she went to a juvenile detention school for a while. When she was done her time there it was nearly her birthday. She went back home and her parents treated her really nice. Her father got Jan to admit to a judge that she drugged Alice. A week later, Alice?

s mom came home from work and found Alice dead in her room. The autopsy revealed that the death was caused by an overdose but nobody knows if it was premeditated or accidental. I think when the author printed this diary his intentions were to tell kids the real truth of what drugs can make you do. He didn? t hold anything back. I think this is important because kids need to know the whole truth about things that can really hurt them.

I also think that the author made this book as a lesson to parents. This way they would be able to know some of the warning signs that your kids might be doing the wrong things. It also helps parents by letting them know what goes on in the life of teens today. The diary used to make the book was written by a teen, so it lets you know all her thoughts and feelings.

I think the author did a great job with this book and it was very smart to inform people of what is really out there. The message in this story is don? t do drugs because it can only lead to bad things.
