Our Dishonest Society In the essay Dishonesty, by Margarita Figueroa, the author tells us that she feels dishonesty is more of a characteristic of our society than honesty is. In our society today people are more apt to cheat, lie, and steal. I feel that given the chance to get away with something people will act differently. Dishonesty has become so common place in out society today.
Every minute of everyday someone, somewhere is doing something dishonest. Whether it be stealing a pen from work to someone stealing thousands of dollars from their work. It happens all the time. But a lot of the time people find ways to justify their actions. Like the company can afford to lose a pen, the company doesnt pay them enough, or they are mistreated. None of these reasons are good reasons but people have to find a way to justify their actions Dishonesty can also occur in places of high position.
For example Bill Clinton haveing sex in the oval office. He was in a position of power and took advantage of it. Another example of people taking advantage of their power can be found at the Sears store in Mid Rivers Mall. The store manager and the manager of electronics were both fired for stealing. The store manager bought a $ 2, 500 computer for $ 25, and the electronics manager was the one who sold it to him. These people clearly abused the power that they had for their gain.
These are all good examples of why dishonesty is more characteristic of our society. It has been proven time and time again that when given the chance people will act dishonest. Not all people will, but an overwhelming number of the population will be dishonest given the chance.
