The Design DESIGN PHILOSOPHY The purpose of this project was to gain some experience with Pspice and to design Uncontrolled Single Phase Full Wave Rectifier with the following two options of output voltage filtering: Option A: With a capacitor. Option B: With an inductor. Uncontrolled Single Phase Rectifier converts AC voltage to DC Voltage. The objective of the design was to achieve ripples within 5 % of the rated output voltage, high power factor and low current harmonic distortion. In order to achieve these results, two circuits were designed. The first design approach consisted of a capacitor, a resistor, four diodes (D 1 N 4002) and source voltage, as shown in the attached figure.
The second design was achieved by using an inductor, a resistor, four diodes (D 1 N 4002) and supply voltage, as shown in the attached figure. Next step in the design process was to calculate the values of capacitor, resistor, and inductor, which were to be used in the two circuits. These values were calculated by using the attached equations. These values were dependent on the specified power output (P). Then the power factor (PF) and current harmonic distortion (CHD) were calculated for both designs. Based on the values of power factor (PF) and current harmonic distortion (CHD), it was decided which design option gave the most desirable results.
After implementation of design, it was verified by Pspice simulation, which allowed to check if the implemented design met the specifications.
