Extreme popularity almost inevitably always leads to a backlash or satire. In the society of today, satire works at the speed of light. Just as soon as something is popular, the swift hand of parody is ready to knock it down. This has always breathe case, except backlash never worked as fast as it does now.
Back in the days of courtly love, the troubadours with there message of unquenchable love was popular for hundreds of years, before the court grew weary. Now when an audience for any artform gets weary, there are two options: reinvent it or make fun it. The art that the troubadours produced was one of great longevity. It was able to evolve with the times and aspects of icon still be seen today. What I find most interesting is its progression.
From a way of making a living for a man, to a form expression for women, to its eventual mockery.
